This was a holiday dinner with adult son, his wife, and three grandchildren aged 10-14. Rue de Jean is Charleston’s premier restaurant for family dining due to its varied menu and wonderful service.

We have lived in Charleston for 24 years and this is our first visit to this restaurant. It was one of the best meals we’ve had in the city. Delicious food, both French and American and a great place to eat. We were right next-door to the music venue we were going to. The service was superb. I recommend those who have just come to Charleston and who might have been here a while, but not gone yet to try this place out. You will not be disappointed.

Had a reservation for 7:15. They were not busy. Hostess never made eye contact sat my daughter and I quickly and came back and essentially threw silverware down and left. Took a long time for the waiter to visit.

I rarely write reviews, but the food was fair. The escargot was not prepared traditionally and the scallops, while cooked properly were not to my liking. The main course was brought out before the appetizer and the person delivering them curtly questioned the preferred order of my order. My waiter was adequate, but did not offer the fish of the day option as he did with a neighborhood table. I would not recommend this restaurant.

The dishes we ordered were both very salty. Other than that, the experience was great.
