   We did get there shortly before dinner closing time but confirmed ahead that there was no issue to order as long as we got our order in before they officially closed, which we did. Staff was knowledgeable and accommodating regarding my dietary restrictions. However, servers would practically slam food plates down on our table once the orders came out. Additionally, the steak wasn’t great. It was just okay. Price was high considering the value of what we got. Will stick to brunch at this chain going forward as that is a good value for the money and a much better experience overall.

   Beatrix menu is very limited for dinner especially if you are in the area and would like to eat there more often because it is convenient. One soup…chili. Is that even soup? Two sandwiches…a hamburger and a veggie burger. Three very heavy desserts if you don’t count the cookies which are mostly sold out by dinner time. Pricey for what we had. Two bowls of beef stroganoff. That’s it… no drinks, nothing else over $60 and that was before the tip. Also not right to figure the service tax on the the total bill including city tax. That’s a tax on a tax.

   Disappointing visit. We come here regularly when we visit Chicago (it’s near our hotel) and it’s normally very reliable. This time they seemed slammed by a convention. After waiting for a table ( though we had a reservation) we were seated in what seemed like a high-school dining hall, with long tables jammed together with little room to squeeze past. Servers seemed harried; we ordered a bottle of wine with a request that it come before our food. It appeared about five minutes after the appetizers. Mains appeared before we’d finished the appetizers. Food is solid, but they need a stronger management on the floor.

   Food was adequate but not hot enough, especially the fries. Too much slaw and not enough fish on the fish tacos.

   We love coming back to this restaurant every time we visit Chicago. The food is outstanding with a wonderful atmosphere. However, our waiter was very rude and seemed annoyed by simple requests like hot sauce and if the carry out order was ready. Most of the staff are very polite and friendly. Hopefully, this is a one time event.
