Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Christiana Campbell's Tavern offers a delightful blend of history and dining in Colonial Williamsburg. Guests rave about its "fantastic atmosphere" and "delicious food," with standout dishes like the seafood pye and crab cakes. The live period music and attentive service from staff like Timothy and Amanda enhance the experience, making it a must-visit for both history buffs and food lovers. However, be prepared for a "pricey" menu, and check options in advance for kids or specific dietary needs. Overall, it's a memorable step back in time with culinary charm.

We went for Christmas dinner and this was the worst food we have eaten in a restaurant in a long time. The food was equivalent to a bad banquet meal. The appetizers were ok, but the entrees were horrible. Several of us had a grossly overcooked and flavorless flounder and lobster that was supposed to have a truffle buere blanc which was missing. The others ordered the steak that was chewing shoe leather even though they were medium rare. All the dishes were luke warm like they just came out of a hot box. We believe the food was cooked off-site in a banquet kitchen and delivered to the site. For the price we paid we feel we got ripped off.

An absolute ripoff based on the horrible quality of the food. They are clearly taking advantage of Christmas Day dinners with an outrageously priced and terribly prepared prix fixe dinner. Our main courses were either cold or overcooked and dry as dust, and requesting a fix brought a result that was microwaved to destruction. Never ever again. I'd demand a refund and damages if I had any idea how to get there.

We have come here several times for Christmas Dinner and have decided that it is now our holiday tradition. Outstanding service and delightful ambiance. We really enjoyed the harp player and the candlelight. The prix fixe menu had options for everyone and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. My husband had the angus beef and I had the barley risotto. The crab cake appetizer was the size of a dinner cake and paired perfectly with the squash hash bed upon which it was served. Dinner was so filling that we got our peppermint chocolate cake to go. The waitstaff is wonderful. Charming and well trained. We were not rushed at all and could savor the entire experience. Well worth the money!

While the quality of the food is not commensurate with the price, I still recommend this restaurant, to persons visiting Colonial Williamsburg. Tonight, enjoyed the" Christmas experience", a prix fix, prepaid holiday dining event. The crabcake starter was flavorful but a tad overcooked. The sirloin main course was definitely overcooked and just saved by the au jus base. Mashed potatoes and the spoon bread were the highlights. In spite of a lackluster meal, the evening felt festive and included a brief performance by a celtic harpist who entertained us with a few christmas pieces. The servers, dressed in period costumes, were friendly and food delivery was prompt.

A last minute trip to Williamsburg I’m sure we got the very last and latest reservation available on a busy Grand illumination weekend. We were seated in the basement which doesn’t have the same ambience as the main dining room, but we at least had one visit from the entertainment during our meal. Pre Fixe dinner was just ok for the high, prepaid price tag but our server was very pleasant.

Alexis was incredible and the best! Had a small issue with steak temp but went above board to make it right. Can't beat dinner by candlelight and a roving balladeer plus a great server with an even better attitude. 💯

As always, the food was fantastic and entertainment superb. Heather did a great job taking care of us and making sure we were happy and cared for, which was even more amazing considering it was the last night of Grand Illumination and extremely busy. Flawless experience!
