Hutong at The Shard’s cuisine takes its inspiration from the dishes served in the imperial palaces of what was then Peking. Based on the ‘Lu school’ cuisine of Shandong Province, the menu artfully captures the subtlety and surprises of Northern Chinese cooking. First visit to Hutong but certainly won’t be my last. Saturday brunch menu was superb and “freeflow” starters a real highlight. Excellent service in the bar beforehand and throughout the meal. In and out in just under 2 hours but never felt rushed.

We booked in advance for a special Chinese New Year dinner for 10 of us. When we arrived they didn’t have a big enough table ready for us which was disappointing. We were ushered to the back of the restaurant where it was freezing cold. The manager did his best to accommodate us with a heater which helped with some of us. As we were so far away from the front of the restaurant the service was extremely slow and there was no ambience. It took a long time before we got served our first dish and quite a wait before thereabouts dishes came. Once they did the food was outstanding. Everyone was super happy and loved every dish.

The food is always consistently good, i always go for the chicken simmer hotpot. I’ve bought friends and family here lots of times and they’ve all enjoyed it.
