An upscale, modern eatery, EDGAR features traditional American brasserie cuisine and authentically crafted cocktails. Handcrafted cocktail culture marks The Mayflower's return to the iconic bar scene. EDGAR will be the place to toast with a classic beverage, but a creative and artisanal menu is the new star.

Located in the footprint of the original restaurant space with entrances in the lobby and on Connecticut Avenue, EDGAR replaces the former Town & Country and Cafe Promenade and promises a contemporary twist to the iconic hotel. Bringing the spirit of the grand bar back to Connecticut Avenue, EDGAR embraces the history of its legendary location and is poised to be a iconic yet modern fixture within DC social and cultural scene.

From the moment we arrived, during happy hour, the hostess was very friendly and attentive. Our waiter was equally friendly, and described how the citrus slices were dried in an air fryer. The only glitch was that the menu was incorrectly annotated as to which menu items were gluten free. I was not able to have either of my first 2 choices, as they were not truly gluten free, as marked. Unfortunately, I had ordered red wine for the now-forbidden beef. The third choice, the halibut, was fabulous. The manager brought a glass of white wine to compensate. They should fix either the menus or the recipes. Had I known in advance about the lack of gluten free options, I would not have chosen this restaurant. I hope they fix this problem.

I just enjoyed a lovely lunch with a good friend. The tuna and mango poke bowl was so delicious I would highly recommend and will be back for more. The service was excellent as usual.

The food was good. The elote dip and chicken wings were very good. My husband had the ribeye and I had the seafood risotto and we both enjoyed our meals. While the food was good, I would say it was a very average meal. It was satisfying but not something I would need to have again. Service was also average. The restaurant is very convenient for those staying at the hotel who want a reasonable meal that is easily accessible.

We ate here 3 times because of convenience as we were staying in the hotel. Every time the food was near tasteless and disappointing and while some of the staff seemed nice and helpful, the equal number that seemed annoyed to have to provide service made it a negative experience.

Salmon was under cooked. Brussels Sprouts were very salty. That was dinner. The next morning same restaurant for breakfast the potatoes were under cooked and hard. Eggs Benedict had no taste.

This place has hit its stride. The menu covers most tastes, the wine menu was varied enough to include all price points. Service was friendly and competent, without being constantly in our faces. We were staying at the Mayflower for a romantic getaway, and Edgar perfectly fit for a romantic meal—enough that this is going to be a “regular”!
