The Royal Canal, which runs from the River Liffey to the River Shannon and stretches a distance of 145km, was originally built for freight and passenger transportation with the last working barges ceasing to operate in 1951.Now beautifully maintained by Irish Waterways, you are welcome to visit The Lock Keeper by canoeing, walking or cycling from Dublin City Centre. Great evening in Fifty50 to celebrate our son’s 16th birthday. Lovely welcome when we arrived. Very good menu and service was excellent. Had some of the early bird menus, good value. They brought out a birthday platter at the end and sang happy birthday, I’d highly recommend it!

We were a party of 7, 4 adults and 3 young boys. We had an amazing time m. The boys (who are quite fussy eaters) ate everything! The food was exceptional, would highly recommend. The waiting staff were all meticulously mannerly and checked just enough that everything was to our satisfaction.

Everything was great except the portion size. I’m not a big eater & usually find that starter, main course & desert are just too much so usually 2 courses is enough. Ordered the lamb. It was described as coming with creamed potatoes and vegetables. Whilst it was presented well and tasted lovely, it was way too small. It looked like a mini island of food lost in the middle of a dinner plate. Even some additional vegetables to help part fill the plate would have been appreciated. Once it landed it was too late to order any Additional side dishes which would have taken longer to prepare than the few minutes required to eat what was presented. Cost was €24. I followed it with coffee & desert. I went out for dinner but actually had to make a sandwich when I got home. As I say, I’m not a big eater although I’m a regular restaurant goer & I’ve never complained about online before and I’ve never gone home & had to make something to eat after having been out for dinner. I hope this feedback is taken constructively as it is intended.
