At first glance, you might think the name of Rouj Creole is misspelled. Besides “rouj” instead of “roux,” a quick scan of the new restaurant’s menu shows the word “gonbo” where you’d expect to find “gumbo.”But owner Stephen Hightower isn’t a bad speller. He’s just bringing Baton Rouge a taste of Creole cuisine—complete with the authentic Haitian Creole spelling of traditional dishes.

Honestly some of the best food in Baton Rouge. Can’t honestly comment on the steaks cause I never order them but the duck dishes and especially their Beef Bourguignon are always spot on. The only down side is the awful parking downtown, but what are you gonna do?

My Wife and I eat at Doe's at least once a month and have a Server, Mary, who takes excellent care of us. Mary is so good that when we sit down she says "the usual?" meaning a slightly dirty vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. The steaks are wonderful and always cooked just as I like them, RARE. Last night my Wife tried the fried shrimp for the 1st time and they were very good. We have been going to Doe's for 25-30 years---as long as they have been open and have never had a bad experience. A wonderful place to relax in a casual atmosphere and have a really great meal and drink.

This is a quality, very fine dining restaurant. The Caesar salad is outstanding. The lobster Gnocchi was not great. It was mushy. There were lots of interesting things to try. I will go back. My friend ordered striped bass, and she loved it. I want to try the Lounge. It looked very cozy, and the menu had much lighter food. Don't bring a bottle of your wine. The corkage fee is outrageous.
