Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music. Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. I went to Millennium with 2 friends to celebrate my birthday. It had been many years since I last ate there and my memory was that the food was less than average. I decided to give it another chance after I read that the restaurant had Michelin recognition. I'm so pleased that I did. The food was excellent and very interesting. We shared 3 appetizers and 1 main dish along with 1 dessert and a glass of wine. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. The ambience was warm but the noise level was rather loud for 3 "older" women who wanted to talk to each other rather than scream at each other. Really that was my only complaint. I would definitely go back again.

One of our party has food limitations and prefers firm fish, dishes without alliums and low to moderate spices. The only main course on the menu available with those restrictions was the Kingfish and , at $45, it was overpriced for its value. Other than that the rest of the food, the service, atmosphere and overall experience was excellent. It’s probably our fault for not checking the menu but, as this was a special occasion, the reservation was made in advance.
