Located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row,” El Che Steakhouse & Bar is Chicago's go-to destination for steak, seafood, and live-fire cooking. A 12-foot custom-built grill serves as the centerpiece for this downtown asado which embraces South American-tinged meats, seasonal vegetables, fresh seafood, and of course, steak. The hearth also serves as the heart of the restaurant’s experiences such as dining at the Hearth Table. Join us for happy hour at our cocktail bar, featuring signature cocktails and fiery bar bites or indulge in a glass of wine from the country’s only South American wine list. From start to finish, Virtue was absolutely exceptional. We celebrated my birthday with a party of six, and the experience was unforgettable. Our server, Joe (I believe), was incredible—laid-back, attentive, and full of excellent recommendations that enhanced our meal. First off, the celebration of Black excellence in this restaurant is truly inspiring. It’s wonderful to see such a diverse team working seamlessly together, creating an atmosphere of collaboration and joy. Every dish we tried was outstanding. The table favorites included the biscuits with pimento cheese, the tender short ribs, and the baked chicken, which had phenomenal flavor and perfectly crispy skin. I can’t recommend the sides enough—they were all a hit! The desserts were something special—truly homemade in the best way. The red velvet cake was decadent, and the peach cobbler and banana pudding tasted like they were crafted with love by someone’s grandmother. I’m already looking forward to my next visit, whether it’s for another special occasion or just happy hour at their inviting bar. Huge thanks to the chefs and the team at Virtue!

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time. We were a little late for our reservation, I had called ahead to let them know and it wasn’t an issue they still held out table. My first impression was WOW beautiful! We were seated right away. We started with the garlic bread fondue and my husband had the bootlegger and I had the prohibition both drinks were delicious (since I’m competitive mine was better-haha) We each had the T-bone steak and shared the glazed carrots and cheese potatoes. The sides were very good. Now on to the steak - AMAZING!! The steaks were cooked perfectly! So delicious and it’s a big steak (go hungry). I could go on but try it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. I know the restaurant advertises as sports bar so having TVs with sports games on was no surprise. My thought was the TVs would be at the bar not around the restaurant. That was my only disappointment. So many TVs around the walls really took away from the beauty of the old Chicago photos of the theater district, the beautiful “leather” walls - the architecture of the restaurant gives you a glimpse into the past. The TVs just take away from the perfect atmosphere. We absolutely loved this restaurant!! We will be back again!
