Izakaya Den is Denver’s popular Japanese gastropub, modeled after the lively after hours establishments found throughout Japan. The restaurant is located on South Pearl Street and is the second restaurant of the Kizaki brothers, founders and owners of Sushi Den. The menu is arranged in a tapas style, serving traditional Japanese small plates along with dishes infused with international flavors and textures. The more traditional Japanese offerings include sashimi and nigiri, sourced from daily fish shipments from around the globe, along with dumplings and noodle dishes.     I came here four years ago and loved it, and decided to go again during a work trip - no regrets. The mandarin hamachi was my favorite but everything was phenomenal. The vibe, the service, the care regarding an allergy, the food - you can’t go wrong. Reservation highly recommended!

    The restaurant has great colors and lighting. The open concept means the noise is at a reasonable level even with a full house. Service was great. What we loved were guacamole, the queso birria tacos, the vegan tacos and the plantains. The items that were okay were the adobo tacos and the molotes (which the teen described as a fancy jalapeño popper). The churros and margaritas were good. Altogether a tasty dinner with really good service and reasonably priced. We would try an original drink and the mole next time.

    We ordered the chef's four-course meal and wine pairing for our anniversary, and everything was excellent. The food and wine were great, the server was attentive and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was romantic. We will definitely be back.
