Originally known as Phoebe's Garden Café, the restaurant has a long and colorful history in Syracuse. Local lore claims that the building was originally a brothel, and Phoebe was its madam. In the summer of 2004, Phoebe's experienced a refreshing makeover with a bright new look in the atrium dining room with fresh paint, new upholstery, and artwork. The coffee lounge also opened that year, and it became an instant hit with the surrounding university and business crowd. Those changes also warranted a new name to reflect the updated attitude and ambiance: Phoebe's Restaurant and Coffee Lounge. Classic elements of Phoebe's remain untouched—the French onion soup and enticing crème brulee, for example, but other menu items change seasonally. I had the salmon it had a nice crispy bottom and was cooked to perfection. The corn risotto and asparagus were a delightful accompliment. Another diner had the hot honey chicken which was moist and not too spicy. The brussel sprouts were cooked but not mushy. Truffle fries were thin, crispy and not over powering. I wish we had saved room for dessert. The Bignets would have been a tasty finish.

It is a true hidden gem! Tucked away inside the NYS Fairgrounds it is actually more convenient since there's ample parking and pretty much in a secured area. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly hostess and sat down at a table that is surely a delight for two since it's larger than the average. Food was impeccable and the drinks were spot on. Our server Adam was very pleasant and attentive. I highly recommend Daniella's if you want a more private intimate gathering without the hassle of traffic.
