34 is Chef Emeril Lagasse’s first restaurant dedicated to the cuisine of his Portuguese heritage. He was inspired by his late mother, Hilda, who influenced his interest in cooking when he was a child growing up in Fall River, MA. The 245-seat restaurant is adorned in shades of green – Emeril’s signature color – wood accents and ornate Portuguese tiles. A painting of a rooster, a national Portuguese symbol of good luck, greets guests at the entrance. Come dine in this beautifully restored Uptown restaurant on Magazine Street and enjoy James Beard Award Winning Chef Justin Devillier's contemporary Louisiana Cuisine.The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. The food and service were great, just a bit noisy, as expected, with many celebrating. The food format, small plate tapas now, changed since our last visit a year ago, we are from out of town, but still plenty to share. Highly recommended!

Our server Peyton was amazing. She was super sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. My wife’s first experience wasn’t the best when we came in March but I told her to try it one more time because my experience was really good the first time I came with friends. Let’s just say she’s glad she came back.

Everything was so delicious. We ordered the crispy turkey necks to start, chicken thighs, and oxtails. The turkey necks were fried perfectly, and the pepper jelly on it surprisingly worked really well with them. The chicken was falling off the bone and full of flavor. The oxtail was my least favorite of the night but still not bad at all (the gravy or jus was a little different). Tender. Serving sizes for everything were generous; we could’ve easily split one entree. We’ll be back!
