In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s. Seasoned chefs and entrepreneurs Hans Röckenwagner and Josiah Citrin have teamed up to re-open Dear John’s with an updated classic American menu and old-school cocktail list.

We are an eclectic Los Angeles restaurant, located in Koreatown, heralded for its creativity and genre-defying cuisine. Their first restaurant together, owners Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener opened Here's Looking At You in 2016. Named a "Restaurant of the Year" by Food & Wine Magazine and one of Eater National's "38 Most Essential Restaurants," HLAY was also the subject of author Patric Kuh's "Becoming a Restaurateur." After four magical years as a small independent restaurant, COVID-19 would force its forever closure. But 17 months later, fate would have it that the community would come together to help resurrect this very special restaurant. Thanks to you, Here's Looking At You is back.

Metropole Bar & Kitchen highlights a classic west coast cuisine inspired by our culinary team’s heritage and the local community. Our lobby-level restaurant welcomes guests for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, available seven days a week. Much like the rest of our property, Metropole Bar & Kitchen’s design was inspired by muse Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American international movie star who lived in Downtown L.A. during the early 1900s during the time of prohibition.Stepping into our dining area is reminiscent of decades past with nods to DTLA’s prohibition era. From our booths and lowered ceilings that embody speakeasies and underground tunnels that once transported spirits and contraband, to the black & white photos of Jazz musicians inspired by the Jazz Era of the 1920s. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Each dish was savory and creatively and artfully displayed. We were puzzled by one dish: the obsidian mirror. We discovered that the "food" was the thin layer of black smoked mussel and plum resting on top of the black round container. We used a large mussel shell as our spoon, which was different. Our favorites: seasonal paradox (full of flowers with peas and kiwi), oat porridge bread, sea urchin (a supplemental with a splash of Pedro Ximénez 1931 sherry - such a unique combination for dessert!), and layers, the last dessert of the evening. Service was excellent. Vespertine ranks high among the Michelin starred restaurants we've enjoyed throughout the years.

The experience at Openaire this morning was so such a lovely way to spend our first meal of 2025. The staff was very special . So warm , attentive , intentional and present ! We truly felt like guests in someone's home . The food matched the rest of the sweet vibe at Openaire . If we lived closer we would come more often . h and when we left they also greeted us a warm goodbye and showed appreciation for us coming.

Excellent. I have been there 30 years ago and it was a delight to go again it was a very nice experience. Loved the sand dabs fish and they serve the best mash potatoes! The steak fries are to die for. My son said it was the best New York steak he ever had. He was turning 14 years old. He will always remember Dear John’s and his bday celebration. The cheese cake was delicious. And the wine list is exquisite. I just can’t wait to go back !
