Au contraire. This is your classic, everyday neighborhood French bistro run by Chef Paul Magu-Lecugy & his wife, Laura. That kind of cozy little place you’d imagine in Saint Michel or Saint Germain. Not smack dab in the middle of the 'burbs. But lucky for you, that’s exactly where 5-star chef Paul Magu will be paying homage to the French comfort food that he fell in love with as a boy growing up in Paris. Traditionally inspired from dishes, ingredients & techniques spanning the Malay archipelago, namely Singapore & Indonesia. Regionally influenced by Northern California’s palette of producers, produce, and presentation. Essentially: expressing these tropical, cosmopolitan island flavor profiles through the abundance of what thrives in Northern California’s Mediterranean climate and terrain.  Nusantara cuisines could be characterized as intense, rich, spiced (more than spicy). Steeped in time and layers of complexity, both in the kitchen and in the long history of diverse peoples in this part of the world. Chef Nora Haron draws from this wealth of culinary knowledge, plus contrasting Californian influences, which some could say to be the polar opposite: that deconstructed-composed, whole-ingredients-laid-bare simplicity, the lightness that has evolved in California eating through the few decades of this relatively young place.

We almost always eat in Oakland, Berkeley and SF because it's hard to find good food and flavors through the tunnel. Hideout nails it. The lamb shank, the fried chicken, the squash all as good as you get in the City. Delicious. Could still use some work on their craft cocktails, but the food was excellent.

We love the food and enjoyed great meals today at lunch. I got there early so I could ask the hostess to please note my grand daughter was home from college and it is her birthday. She said she would inform our server….. I knew my grand daughter would choose a chocolate dessert, which she did + her Mum and I also enjoyed our desserts. GREAT disappointment when 3 desserts arrived NO candle !!!!! Of course I didn’t make a fuss , however I wanted to !! The special moment was over and I left your restaurant feeling let down. We all love coming to True Food Kitchen in Walnut Crerk CA because we love the food and I knew when I told our grand daughter that’s where we would be having lunch….. she was, as expected …. excited. Please get through to your hostesses that some requests mean a great deal and they need to follow through !!! Antoinette ☹️

Lovely dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. We sat out on the outdoor patio which was nice and cozy despite the chilly weather that evening. Our server Arlene was friendly and gracious, providing the right level of attentiveness and interaction. The food was delicious as well. I love a good moules frites and the mussels were nice and plump and the fries were perfectly salted. It appeared there were other parties also celebrating birthdays the same night so if you are looking to have a good meal in a nice atmosphere, Reve Bistro is a great choice.
