The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. A great place to meet friends for afternoon lunch/brunch. The quality of food was excellent and atmosphere was very relaxed and inviting. Great value with a great selection of wines. Thanks to everyone in Ely, we will be back.

Everything was perfect! The food was delicious, the place was cozy and the service was outstanding! Perfect for a special dinner. We went there to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and the waiters and waitress were so attentive and made sure it was memorable. Luna was super nice and helpful with her recommendations. We can’t wait to come back and try other dishes, they really were absolutely delightful (and so many vegetarian options!). Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful meal here on a very damp cold Dublin night. Dishes were very tasty. Huge wine selection. No draught beers but lots of choice in bottles. A little pricey but not vastly dissimilar from more commercial restaurants, with a significantly higher quality. Staff were professional and attentive. A lovely evening all round!

We enjoyed a lovely evening with friends, celebrating our first wedding anniversary. The service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the banter with the restaurant team. The food was superb, a real treat and a bonus to say hi to the Chef as he moved between the tables to meet the diners. We certainly didn't need the salt or pepper we'd requested during the first course. We plan to do it all again next year. Thank you!!
