The Durham Ox is a family owned traditional village Inn offering friendly and efficient service; showcasing the best of local produce in our menu, as well as stocking an extensive range of wines and cask ales. A small 500-year-old traditional village pub owned by the Hannah family. A pub of yesteryear, it is a true little gem.A Free House, situated in the beautiful village of Raskelf, North Yorkshire (just off the A19 north of York). The pub dates back to the 16th century with its structure boasting ships timber brought up the river Ouse from Hull. The local cask ales are Theakston's Best, Timothy Taylor's Landlord & Hambleton brewery Stud Blonde (gluten free), The Sunday roasts are to die for with produce locally soured, some direct by the farmers that frequent the pub. Our beautiful seasonal changing menu includes, local steak selection, homemade pub classics, and dishes such as pork belly, Gressingham duck fillet, local lamb shank, BBQ beef short rib, lemon sole, Scottish rope grown mussels, Cornish king scallops, dressed crab salad to name a few. We were treated to afternoon tea. A gift voucher from our son and new daughter in law. Not that we had paid I thought the price of the afternoon tea for what we got was rather expensive. Not a price I would have paid. The tea was quite nice, my wife had a pot of tea and I ordered coffee. On the menu it stated a pot of coffee. All I got was a cup of coffee. The staff were very friendly, but didn’t come to ask if everything was ok. It was a nice experience but having had afternoon tea in other places it was expensive compared to other venues.

Our experience at the Refectory was outstanding. The ambience and overall feel of the restaurant was relaxing and chilled. The food was simply some of the best we have ever had (now I really understand what an explosion of flavours means when they say it on Masterchef). Prices I would say were mid to high but the food was worth every single penny. Staff were attentive without being overly so & myself and my husband will definitely return when we visit York again.
