Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised because we were seated inside instead of the patio. Our reservation stated that we would be seated on the patio. Our server was attentive, but not overly so. When I suggested that one of the dishes was a little low, the server noted my request and promptly brought a fresh replacement. The cost was a little pricey, especially with a 20 percent gratuity added and a suggestion for an added gratuity, but the dining experience was worth it. We will return.

The food was delicious, and plenty of it. This was our third trip to Williamsburg, and we’ve had dinner at several of the Colonial restaurants but Christiana’s was the best. The baked Oysters were excellent, after five hours I’m still thinking about them. My wife had the Turkey and I Roast Beef, both were moist and cooked to perfection. The sides were Mashed Potato and Stuffing, both delicious. FYI: The Stuffing was to die for. Some how we found room for dessert. Chocolate Cake, Apple Pie. Still thinking about them too. Thank you Christiana Campbells and your staff for a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We were seated quickly and Darrell (a recent Virginia Wesleyan graduate) was our server. As always, service here is exceptional. We have been coming here for years, and have sometimes cancelled reservations elsewhere just to enjoy another meal here. My husband salmon and shrimp in parchment that he raved over. I had gluten free baked crab cakes that were outstanding. The portions are huge, so no room for dessert. It’s a popular restaurant, we recommend reservations for the evening especially over holidays. But you will have a superb meal!
