“YOU MAY ALL GO TO HELL, AND I WILL GO TO THE CROCKETT TAVERN!”Born out of the ruins of The Alamo’s last stand, situated on the El Camino Real Trail, the Crockett Tavern is the real Texas deal.Located in the historic Crockett Hotel, feet away from the perimeter walls of the legendary Alamo, the Tavern exists as a living reflection of the site of the infamous battle of nearly two centuries ago and of Davy Crockett, the storied frontiersman whose life and death provided the most remarkable narrative of it all.The surroundings tell their own tale. Old Bexar rock, repurposed oak and cedar beams create a canvas that harkens back to the days when Texas was a battleground for independence. After your visit to the world-famous Alamo, the Tavern offers a chilled whiskey cocktail or an ice-cold Texan craft-brewed beer, served at a worn and weathered bar that is guarded by Texas’ largest girth longhorn mount.

Best Quality Daughter houses a vibrant, chic décor and new, unique Asian-American menu. In 2018, chef Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin, wanting to address the sparsity of Asian-American female chefs in South Texas, developed a new concept through a series of pop-up dinners called Best Quality Daughter with fellow chef Anne Ng and artist Jennifer Ling Datchuk. Today Best Quality Daughter is located in the historic Mueller House at the Pearl Brewery. Curated by chef Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin, Best Quality Daughter's menu takes inspiration from her travels and the comfort food of her youth as a second-generation Chinese-American.

We were pleasantly surprised! Right in the Riverwalk, obviously a popular place, but everything works well! Food was delicious, our server was cute, gracious, and attentive. Even though we mixed up our reservation they found a table for two on a busy Saturday night. No complaints. We'll be back.

I so love the menu choices at Bigas, especially how you can choose the smaller portion entrees which still have all the goodie sides and sauces. It's hard for me to pass up the lamb chops they are so good. This time the veal?/wine reduction sauce (my favorite part) kinda got all soaked up by the grits which were surprisingly a bit dry. I could drink that sauce! Of course we got the wild game packets for appetizer (always) and so good, fresh perfect leaves of radicchio and Bibb lettuce wrapped around delightfully seasoned ground game meat. And of course the bread basket a must, the 3 breads all are great, hard to pick a fav. My partner had the Prix fixe menu which unfortunately for him had subbed out his choice of beef tips with short rib roast which was not trimmed to his liking (fatty surround). The romaine Caesar salad choice was ok, the cheesecake desert so good (oh that caramel sauce!!!) and his wine pairings were also very good, especially the sauterne dessert wine that we had to go out and buy a bottle after! You cannot get better service anywhere than Bigas, and the corner two top table by the window with river view at Christmas, we just can't go anywhere else!
