Our story starts in the Indian valley of Kashmir. We are three generations who have been in the restaurants and hotels field. My grandfather started his humble beginnings at the Cecil Hotel in Shimla in the late 1930s; my father also joined the trade at Hyatt Hotels, from which he migrated us from India to Australia. Then I, Ankit, decided to open my own restaurant. Having been in the hospitality industry for the past decade, I learned from the great chefs of Australia and brilliant hotel proprietors, gathering all the knowledge and experience from previous generations. We bring the taste of Indus to Melbourne in the name of Bombay On Bay.

A collaboration with renowned Melbourne chefs Shannon Martinez (Smith & Daughters, Smith & Daughters Deli) and Ian Curley (French Saloon, Kirk’s Wine Bar), Lona Misa is a rebellious renaissance from root to stem, sustainably crafted to be seasonal, full of flavour, and memorable. The result? "A deliciously lively eatery that provides the ideal setting for coming together and taking part in the simple act of enjoying good food that is kind to the planet" (TimeOut). Awarded One Hat by the prestigious Good Food Guide 2023, Lona Misa’s Latin fare and bistro dining collide against the norms of the classical medley you know of vegan and vegetarian dining. Think of dishes like Brazilian steafood stew Moqueca, roasted padron & manchego croquetas, or pastor mushrooms grilled over charcoals on Josper with corn puree, fermented pineapple & chilli.

Hochi Mama was the God Mother of all aspiring street artists and rappers in the early nineties. An immigrant in the big city, she hosted underground art shows along with rap battles for the rejects; a place where you could just be at home, but with family. The whole crew was always welcome, the more the merrier, and she was well renowned for creating innovative dishes using the original famous dishes from her home country, and plenty of booze, in her spacious and homey warehouse. This cheeky, vibrant and buzzing Vietnamese Fusion venue is one for your to-do list. Boasting a killer menu and a super cool vibe, this place is known for a cocktail, feast or an intimate date night.

The service and the ambiance was fantastic. We ordered the gnocchi and the lasagna which were tasty and filling. We ordered mocktails to drink but it wasn’t the best value - too expensive for what we were getting. Overall a brilliant place and will come back again!

It’s lovely that we were greeted twice by two separate wait staff who were very friendly, but then it took time to get their attention to order. Food was amazing but with items the delicious Betel Leaf with Prawn, we really needed some wipes to clean sticky fingers. We did our best with napkins, but as an entree I felt sticky for the remainder of the meal. Awesome restaurant and there was a lovely American girl, should have got her name, but she was the hostess that I would like to see in my organisation, where I working on guest experience standards. I will be back!
