Our recent meal at Kokkari transported us back there for the evening. We had the roasted beets with skordalia, a seasonal citrus salad, the taramasalata, and the grilled fish with horta. Everything was fresh, delicious, seasonal, and exquisitely well executed. But I think what really distinguishes this meal, and so often Greek cuisine, is its simplicity. In this case, we couldn't stop raving about the beets and skordalia! Also, their wine list includes a number of greek wines that are difficult to find, especially on the West Coast. Lastly, their exceptional service made this experience truly memorable. Everyone made us feel so welcome, and happy to be there. They really captured the essence of Greek hospitality. Always a special treat to celebrate occassions here. Disappointed though they don’t do the complimentary birthday desserts anymore. I normally don't go in for buffets, but this Cristmas there were very few options, so I decided to take a chance here. The first thing I noticed is that the restaurant was much nicer than was pictured in their post. I've been a cook and know that hot buffets are not easy to maintain without overcooking the food. I was pleasantly surprised; everything was perfect. There was a good selection of food and I was happy with them. The charred Brussles sprouts were especially good and the roast beef was RARE, like I like it. Great service. I make the same thing every holiday…. reservations at Stark’s. Festive decorations, a welcoming holiday atmosphere. Our server was warm, affable, professional without hovering. Just right. We all ordered appetizers, and the mussels were the unanimous winner. Little ones in a sauce worthy of sopping up with a second order of bread. My daughter ordered her favorite butter fish with sticky rice and it met her expectations again. The other two of us had the lobster, so perfectly prepared. Again.
