    The lighting, decor, and comfort at your table is outstanding. We spent 4 hours at our meal and were not rushed-service was attentive. The buckwheat blinis that accompanied the caviar service were exceptional. The cheese service was very good with really nice selections. Unfortunately the potatoes that came with my duck breast were underdone-not crisp at all. Disappointing-especially when the server had told me how good they were. I mentioned it to the person taking my plate with most of the potatoes left on it, but was not asked about it further. The lobster risotto was wonderful. All other dishes were good-not outstanding. It was quite busy on a Friday night and it seemed there were quite a few repeat customers. It is worth a try for a special dinner.

    We have been going to Gary Danko's once or twice a year for 20 years and it has gone downhill. Mistake 1, if you book on OpenTable you are sent to the inferior side of the restaurant. The bread offered upon sitting use to be a great range but is now limited to one type and the person dispensing bread does not seem sympathetic to any requests. The seafood risotto was watery and missing cheese - ay Italian would be ashamed. Tje scallops were good as well as the Japanese potato. The cheese selections offered based on my preferences were disappointing. Service was "intermittent" thought the dinner. There are too many good restaurants to accept this level of service, limited choices, a dismissive attitude and high prices.

    Gary Danko never disappoints. I started off with the glazed oysters, and my husband had the lobster risotto. Both were incredible. As a main course, he had the tuna which was outstanding. I selected the salmon in a potato horseradish crust. The crust was not what I expected. (more like a potato pancake with salmon inside ) but it was delicious. Restaurant looked beautiful for the holidays and although it was crowded, it was not too noisy. We were with another couple and had no problem carrying on a conversation. All in all, still one of the best in SF.
