I’ve often booked at the GG because not only is it a very convenient location but the ambience, service and food are very good. An excellent restaurant for meeting up with friends. At the moment it’s very Christmassy with a fabulous Christmas tree. In October I enjoyed the Oktoberfest

The food was outstanding. Flammkuchen very crispy, Rinderroulade and Schweinshaxe both very tender, lots of flavour. Kaesspaetzle really authentic. The cake menu was impressive, lots of choice: Apfelstrudel, Sachertorte, Donauwelle, Kaesekuchen, Walnuss-Quitten Baiser Torte , all excellent. My only criticism would be with the Mohnkuchen, which had the wrong base. The filling was very nice but it was on a soft base rather than the traditional crust . Also no Streusel on top. Service was excellent too, very attentive and patient. Again just one slight criticism that one waiter was struggling to understand the names of the dishes (which are printed in German on the menu) when taking the order. Maybe a quick crash course of German pronunciation for all waiters wouldn’t go a miss, similar to the wine menu, which does explain how to pronounce Weinkarte.

Food was ok but nothing to write home about. The waiter was miserable and looked like he couldn't even be bothered to serve us. I ordered a portion of spinach and he brought a side salad - he never came to check back on us so didn't even bother letting him know. The venue was stunning though.

Dear Kevin, Thank you for your recent visit and for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Although we all have days where we are not 100%- that should never reflect on service. Please accept our most sincere apologies that the service was not up to our usual standard on this occasion, we will be sure to address this. We have managers on the floor at all times- please let us know if anything is wrong on the day, as we could have easily replaced a side and made sure that you left happier with the whole experience. I am glad you enjoyed our beautiful building and we hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back at German Gymnasium & provide the service you deserve. Warm regards, Jo & GG Team

We all enjoyed our lunch in the beautifully decorated Grand Cafe. The portions were on the large side, which meant we had no room for what looked like fabulous puddings. Service was very efficient but unobtrusive.

Always a lovely experience to dine at the German Gym. A busy early Friday evening but staff always on top of everything, and such a friendly and first-class team.
