   We go every Christmas for the steak and ale pie. As delicious as always. Fantastic atmosphere and good table service. Well worth a visit.

   A "Gastronomic Epiphany " . From the warm welcome on arrival,the friendly and attentive staff to the cosy and historic surroundings, it was the perfect setting to what was probably going to be one of my most memorable dining experiences. We both ordered the fabled "steak n ale" pie with a side of cauliflower cheese. We deliberately abstained from a starter so that we would be able to fully appreciate the main. We were not disappointed ! The pie,gravy,garlic mash and side were sublime. We will be back.

   We have been visiting here from Stafford for several years. Waiting on staff are very friendly. Menu has done down hill. Beef burger I ordered my son was actually a hamburger. Toasted brioche with starters was actually white sliced bread. Moroccan chicken was dry as a bone smallest portion ever/ no sauce. Manager on duty left me feeling too embarrassed to complain anymore saying there was nothing wrong with the food. Swapped dishes with my mum to end the awkward conversation. Manager did not even know there was Diane sauce on the menu when my mum asked for it. Sad to say we will not be back

   This is our favourite place to stop and refresh whenever we travel to York. The service, food and ambience equally as good as our previous visits. We’ll be back.

   We booked for our wedding anniversary meal after a bad experience from a recommendation elsewhere. Wish we had booked Guy Fawkes first ! Excellent food, excellent service, excellent surroundings !

   Every time we come to York, we always come here for food and the atmosphere. The place is always packed out, very lively everybody enjoying the pub side as well as restaurant side. The food and drink are always amazing. I always book well in advance. For some strange reason this year, I had to wait over 20 minutes for the table, we got sat, and then when ordered, we got asked to move (on the wrong table). Managed to order and eat. Then we got asked if we could move ASAP as there is a big party coming for food and drinks. I know things come up, and things run over, and sometimes, it's out of their hands. Felt rushed and did not enjoy this year.

    Los alimentos muy buenos pero no sé si valdría la pena la espera de 1 hora otra vez. Es muy raro y de mal gusto que que cada vez que pides algo te lo cobran de manera inmediata.
