   I’ve dined at King’s for over 20 years so have a good idea of what to expect. Unfortunately King’s failed on service for the first time. It took the waiter literally 15 minutes to deliver our drinks and then take our food order. After 10 minutes, I reported the issue to the hostess and requested she send another server to our table. She responded that there were only two servers working the patio. After another 5 minute wait, we were readying to leave when the server reappeared with our drinks and took our order. I’m guessing that the restaurant was understaffed, a management issue. I noticed a manager bussing tables, suggesting understaffing. Also, no check-back by the server after our food was delivered, and no bread refills. Not a usual 5-Star night for King’s.

   Lydia took great care of our party of 6 and we were seated on time. The lobster tails were very good but a bit too much paprika for my taste. My husband thought the sushi platter was very fresh. The table bread was warm. The kids menu with crayons stickers and games was a treat as was the decorated water glass for them to take home. This place is always busy and consistently good.

   Logan was great! We thought maybe we would have poor service because there were so many people there for Mother’s Day but just the opposite. We were very well serviced, not a hiccup. Very pleasant experience. The food was great!

   We went for lunch on Mother’s Day. We shared oysters, muscles, my son got the sashimi plater and I got the seared ahi tuna salad. I won’t go into details but I got very sick a couple of hours later. I won’t be going again….so bummed.

   Our server was slow and never came back with my leftovers in a doggie bag. I waited 12 minutes to cash out after we were done, after telling her I had to go to church. Normally great service but this time a miss.

    I've had some great experiences in this restaurant, and when I'm in the Carlsbad area, I like going to King's Fish House for what I would consider very good seafood for a good price. It tends to be a busy, lively spot, which is popular with families, and requires reservations. Unfortunately, I've found that the service has become a bit of a mess. I've recently come to the conclusion that poor service the norm. Waitstaff are absent for long periods of time, forget orders, don't think about customers needs (eg appropriate tableware, napkins, etc.), and the timing of food delivery is surprisingly haphazard. When food is delivered, it is often quickly dumped on the table and the server flees. I really wish that the restaurant would make a concerted effort to bring the quality of service back to its current food standard.
