From building society, to bank, to BEAR – this ornate old banking hall site on Derby’s Iron Gate stood empty and forgotten for 9 long years… until we came along.BEAR Iron Gate, Derby sits slap-bang in the centre of the city’s iconic and beautiful Cathedral Quarter; the original hotspot for high-quality food and drink. Located on the first floor of Derby’s vibrant and buzzing Derbion shopping centre, this BEAR store has bloomed off the back of the incredible success of our gorgeous spot over in the city’s Cathedral Quarter.We wanted to bring some of that familiar High Street character to the centre, and we’ve done that by sectioning the vast area in to smaller, cosier sections and added comfy seating, as well as softening our usual warm colour palate slightly to compliment the light, airy atmosphere of the mall.BEAR Derbion is a snug little haven that you can use to escape all that retail hustle.

The structure is traditional but the Decor is very, very modern. Purple walls with orange borders and the Submarine grey fire place in the games room with astro-turf may give you a heavy indication that at this venues core, it's a Sports Bar but you'd be wrong. We booked in advance. The waitress greeted us, showed us to the table and was attentive and friendly for the entire meal. The food (pizza and fish) was well cooked. It was good to see the ham being sliced as needed. The staff were careful about food intolerance and did not need reminding.

Had an incredible night celebrating our anniversary. Tasting experience was incredibly interesting and unique. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my partner's gluten intolerance, and every team member we spoke to were amiable, polite and great conversationalists.
