We've been serving the people of Braintree and beyond since 2015 and in that time have humbly become ‘one of Essex’s best restaurants.’ We have received recognition from the AA, having been awarded an AA Rosette for ‘culinary excellence’ for five consecutive years, and then in 2023 we received our second rosette, putting the restaurant amongst the top 10 restaurants in Essex. Our food is of course one of our main focuses, but we don’t just stop there. Lovely evening out again at this great restaurant. Tasty starters of short rib arancini and a shepherds pie - unusual starter but really works. Then treated ourselves to a chateaubriand to share for main course, which was prepared to our liking. Then finished with a nice selection of cheese and biscuits. A nice touch is that the front of house Harry remembered our drinks selection from a previous visit, however they also offered a chance to change to a different wine that they recommended. Service was not rushed but prompt when required and the venue was busy despite it being the evening before Valentine’s Day. This tells you a lot about the quality of a evening at The House by Hilly Gant.
