The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

We had a fantastic evening! The service by Courtney was stellar- she was knowledgeable, visited our table at the right intervals, and was personable. The food was top notch- the shrimp cocktail was beautiful and delicious, calamari very good and the walleye cakes were good. The NY Strip steak was reported to be “ the best steak I ever had” my special- 10oz prime rib was delectable. Seafood bouillabaisse, ordered by an East coaster, said it was delicious- the only dish not as highly recommended was Wellington meatloaf. Birthday dessert and a group photo followed also had the grasshopper pie and tiramisu which were delightful! A pricey meal- but well worth it. A wonderful experience had by all!

Very expensive but large portions easy to share. Excellent service from Sean who was attentive, knowledgeable, pleasant and paced the meal exactly as we wanted. Lobster cakes delicious. NY strips needed to be returned to get them med rare but this was done quickly and a couple of staff checked back to make sure they we were happy. No holiday decor in sight but elegant restaurant and our booth was quiet and easy to converse. Still our favorite downtown steakhouse!

I walked over from my hotel as I was staying over before flying out the following morning. It was the day after Christmas and it was BUSY. The food was good. I’m had the chicken pot pie. The ambience was a bit loud because of the holiday - but I don’t fault the restaurant. I mean I would definitely come again next time I’m in Minneapolis. It’s also across from Mall of America

My Brother and I had a Glorious Meal for Christmas Eve, which was a special menu for the night. We started out with the Roasted Apple Meatballs and the Bread Board. Both were excellent! Then we decided to order as a takeaway the Charcuterie Board and two of their Entres for later, (Chicken Pot Pie & Baked Macaroni and Cheese) I know, it was crazy but well worth it. Then my Brother had the Truffle and Mushroom Burger with Truffle Fries and I had the Hot Honey Chicken Sand, and the Chef understood the assignment by using Tender Thigh Meat. I was really impressed with the quality. The prices are a little steep but it's Christmas, so I didn't really mind. All in all, a much tasty evening with impeccable service. Will gladly do this next year, or even perhaps the New Years Eve Dinner coming up in a week? Happy Holidays!

A great place for a special occasion always -- but esp. at the Holidays. Great decor, lovely free music, cool drinks, great service and the photo booth all make for a fun time. And being employee owned is a cherry on the top of the sundae. I wish they had more vegan dishes. There is very little there for me to eat.
