Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Delicious lunch of Nicoise Salad, chicken liver parfait , mushroom soup, and profiteroles. Lunch delicious as usual. Service very good. Bar seats full at 2pm, reservations recommended. Take out order of cheeseburger was missing the caramelized onions. Tomato and lettuce are not automatically included on burger and must be requested if desired.

Went with a large group of friends so we may have contributed to an increase in noise level! But we did sit in the bar, so hopefully didn’t disrupt anyone’s quiet meal. Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow, but they didn’t have a lot of help that night so our waitress did a great job for having to take care of so many tables. We had fun, enjoyed our meals, and will come back!

We are frequent guests, as this is our local go-to place, where we know what to expect. It is a gem! Our server Leo was great and very attentive. The only misstep was having to send back the burger multiple times. The manager was gracious and comped it. They truly care about their business and the customers. We will continually return. One of the best examples of outstanding service!
