Following a major refurbishment in early 2019, Chapter One has relaunched with a more modern approach, tempting guests with greater variety and quality.Under the direction of acclaimed chef Andrew McLeish, modern European cooking is available in two formats.     We went for afternoon tea and stayed the whole evening for dinner. The food was excellent and the overall experience so lovely. Service is great and the team work very hard, would recommend the restaurant to anyone.

    We received prompt and friendly service without fuss. All 3 courses of our a la carte menu choice ( as there were 2 of us, this means 6 dishes tried ) were excellent ( eg. halibut, beef tartare, pork cheek. tandoori monkfish , baked coffee tart ). We expected a high quality of food and service and we were not disappointed. Our white wine was served appropriately chilled. The restaurant was busy in this lead up to Christmas and yet our server took time to explain the menu and courses were delivered in a timely fashion. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable eating experience.

    Went for Monday night dinner with family. Welcoming bar staff. The restaurant wasn’t busy. Unfortunately they didn’t have chicken that was on the menu so we had burgers and a lamb dish. The food was delicious. Could not fault it at all. I asked for oat milk with my tea, expecting a no, but that wasn’t an issue. The highlight of the evening was definitely the wonderful guy who served us. He was a very helpful, jovial and deserves a special mention. Thank you
