Nestled in a residential neighborhood on Mission Street, three blocks north of Ocean Avenue lies a slice of “Old Carmel”. Originally founded in 1958 by Yvan Nopert and his family, Chef – Owner Kericos Loutas carries on the traditions of superb Country French Cuisine and personalized friendly service. A local favorite for casual fine dining in a romantic atmosphere, L’Escargot offers visitors an alternative to the “tourist experience”. The menu changes frequently, as do the specials. A three-course prix fixed Bistro Menu is offered nightly.

    Always amazingly perfect! Carey owner and Chef creates beautifully crafted menu with a French flare. Something for everyone to love. Sean the faithfully loyal waiter is a delight!

    Beautiful French classics like pommes frites and escargot appetizers were delicious. The chef is skilled with delicate fish. The scallops on risotto were cooked to tender perfection. Broccoli rapini was an excellent seasoned accompaniment to the pork medallions with mushroom wine sauce. Service is outstanding.

    Traditional European dining executed nearly flawlessly. The beef Wellington was cooked perfectly and the sauce was excellent. The cassoulet special was a great comfort meal and exactly what a cassoulet should be. Service was great and wine selection was good. Overall, dinner was great. I liked that there were two small dining rooms which made for a nice, quiet ambiance.
