Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. First time back since Duner’s changed hands. We were greeted warmly, seated on the porch, which was warm and comfortable. Noise level not as bad as it usually is in the main dining room. Service was perfect, attentive, friendly. Thrilled to see the duck egg rolls and fried oysters still on the menu; they do not disappoint! Crab cakes were stellar, as always. (Duners and Hamiltons are the only places I will order crab cakes in Cville; grew up picking crab so I have high standards and expect crab cakes without filler.) My husband had the lamb and declared it delicious and perfectly prepared. Almond streusel with cherries a al mode was phenomenal, as was my husband’s raspberry chocolate cake. So happy to know the best parts of the old Duners live on.

The food was absolutely wonderful…the rockfish was perfect. We were in the covered patio area and it was completely wet floor…seems the owners could keep the water out of there. Also, the over heat was miserably hot because it is directly pointed at the tables in the middle. I would recommend not being seat out there during cold or rain.

My wife and I took our son and his wife to Hot Tuna for Valentine's Day dinner. It was great. The ceiling was full of heart-shaped red balloons and from 6-8, Frank Sings Frank (Sinatra) preformed, walking through the restaurant, while singing, and sometimes asking ladies if they wanted to dance. Hot Tuna never disappoints and went out of their way to make it a special evening for everyone. At the end of our meal, my wife and daughter-in-law each received a long-stemmed red rose.

We ate here for a birthday celebration and it was perfect. We were seated right away and had a great table. Our waitress was wonderful and the service was great. The restaurant has an extensive wine list and we enjoyed our wine selections very much. They brought bread to the table which was warm and wonderful. They have a large menu with a lot of great choices, along with nightly specials. We all loved the calamari appetizer which had a very light but flavorful breading and both sauces - red and white were excellent for dipping. My son had the pasta special and it was fabulous. My husband had a scallop dish and the scallops were large and there were many of them. I had a vodka penne pasta and added shrimp to it and again the shrimp were large and plentiful. My other son had pizza and loved it. They had desserts available, but we skipped dessert as we had a birthday cake waiting for us at home, and quite honestly we were all stuffed from our food. Three of the four of us left with leftovers which were enough for a second meal today. The bill was reasonable and we would recommend dining here and will return!
