Chef & Owner Josiah Citrin has revived his Michelin 2-Star institution with an intimate, 14-seat restaurant with Chef/Partner Ken Takayama. In a setting that blurs the line between kitchen and dining room, Chefs and service staff guide guests through a 2.5-hour culinary experience.

Collaborating with California farmers from San Diego to Napa Valley, Chef Josiah sources the most unique and exclusive ingredients available. An 8-course tasting menu is bookended by canapés, amuse-bouches and mignardise, all of which showcase global flavors using both modern and classic techniques.

So we’ve tried pretty much all of the highly rated Michelin star restaurants in SoCal, so I think the value for this one was just okay, not bad not great. Compared to just the SoCal region, I would rate this more of a 1.5 star than a normal 2 star. There was a few interesting dishes, but the order was weird because it started off too strong. The scallop dish had sand in it, and me and her both had the same reaction when we had it. Overall, service was excellent, duck was ok (too well done imo), but the veal was great. I really liked the reimagined Caesar salad bite and the lobster dish. I wish they didn’t pair the uni with that fried fish, the temperature and taste of the fried fish was way overpowering. The dessert was also very underwhelming, definitely something I would forget about if not for the cheese that followed. That cheese at the end was way too stink and strong, I didn’t get that at all, it was foul and you have to really love cheese to appreciate that at the very end after the first dessert trio set.

The food is very tasty and artfully presented. Service is great. Overall the experience is excellent. Here are some down side of experiences. The restaurant is “inside” of a restaurant. Not much choice to choose where to seat and tables are relatively close to each other. The food was served together to each table. It was a bit rushing when course after course were serviced continuously. I would still recommend the restaurant and may come back again since my kids line it.

I recently dined at Mélisse, and it was an incredible experience! The waitresses, Mia and Scarlet, were outstanding—so knowledgeable and attentive. The food was simply fantastic, especially the duck; it was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend Mélisse to anyone looking for a special dining experience! (Much love for the Cesar salad ❤️)

Unbelievable! Come hungry! Get the wine paring with the truffle… it’s cool they allow you to pair at your choosing. The owner is extraordinarily pleasant and engaging! I love how you can see them prepare the courses in front of you! It’s an experience from the moment you walk in! My top 5

Nice place but service felt a bit rushed, especially towards the end. Food was excellent and very innovative. Reception was fairly terrible as they didn’t even offer to take coats as we entered. Entrance is shared with both bar and casual restaurant and staff seemed to be bothered by their work than serving clients overall. It has a feel of an American diner more than haute cuisine restaurant. I know this is California but I think there is a limit on it being casual given two Michelin stars.

It’s a $400 per person prix fixe menu that then charges 4% employee health insurance surcharge. Employees should get health insurance. The restaurant should simply adjust the price of the service instead of tacking on tacky fees in a fine dining setting

The entire experience was incredible. There were five tables of two that were nicely spaced apart. There was an open kitchen so we could see the four chefs while they prepared each course. The three servers and Sommelier were top-notch. We loved the ambience and the food was amazing. One of the best Michelin star restaurants we’ve been to.
