When family and friends from out of State come to visit, this is my go to restaurant outside the beltway. Access is easy, great venue at a historic site, wait staff and food is always the best. Ambience; well, you’re dining on many of Martha’s original recipes. Try the peanut soup, it’s delicious!

Dined with close friends and we had a wonderful time catching up while eating our great meal. Our server was attentive and very sweet. Other coworkers also were friendly. We will definitely come back to dine here again :)

While most of the diners are tourists we are local and enjoy eating here especially when we know it’s not a big tourist time (cold December Sunday). The menu is varied from weekend brunch to salads, burgers, sandwiches and dinner entrees. Prices are in line for the area even perhaps a little lower. Service is always top notch. During busy times reservations are a must, there is a free parking lot directly across the street.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Mount Vernon Inn! The menu selections were extensive, including some of the items George Washington himself loved! We sampled the hoecakes (delicious) and peanut soup, which was a very rich and creamy soup that reminded me of French onion soup. My spouse had the French Toast off the Brunch Menu: it came with a side of cottage potatoes. I chose the Caesar salad with grilled chicken breast: don’t skip their croutons which are memorable. The portions were more than enough for us—especially the salad! We were seated in one of the many different rooms in a high traffic area which in hindsight I would avoid due to the noise and general commotion. Overall, though, I would recommend as part of the George Washington Mount Vernon experience!

After being seated and welcomed promptly, our table was ignored for 45 minutes - no beverage refill, the appetizer of two hoecakes ordered 10 minutes after being seated wasn't delivered, and the server did not visit the table or even pass by. When the meal was finally served after asking twice, the well-done burger was served rare and the grilled chicken sandwich had dry chicken and was drowned in broth to compensate. I purchased special tickets for an after-hours event at Mount Vernon for family visiting for the Thanksgiving and we were extremely disappointed with the service we received and the meal that was served. Despite the history and grandeur of Mount Vernon, we will be hard-pressed to return to the restaurant or the grounds.

We are members of Mount Vernon and took our visiting parents to eat in the restaurant during thanksgiving holiday. We were so excited to share with them how proud we were to be members of this historic organization having just moved to the area. Our server was awesome. However, the staff bussing the tables next to us made a lot of noise putting glasses and plates away. I turned to them and asked politely if they could make less noise to which both staff members made faces at us, said inappropriate things, and purposely made more noise with plates and chairs. Even our server came back and said she heard and witnessed the rudeness. The manager came over and apologized which was kind. There was no offer to comp any of our meal. The bus staff returned to bus another table and appeared to have been corrected by manager. We were so disappointed in this unfortunate experience and have zero desire to dine there again.

I arrived at 2 pm and was seated immediately since I had a reservation. The waitperson came right away and handed me a menu and left to give me time to look it over. I ordered the peanut and water chestnut soup, the turkey pot pie, and the colonial bread pudding for dessert. What can you say about peanut soup? Okay I had it, it tasted good, and I never need to have this colonial specialty again. No knock on the restaurant, it has other appetizers to choose from. The turkey pot pie had chunks of roast turkey and vegetables swimming in gravy around a circular piece of baked bread. I thought it was pretty good and the serving was big enough for two to share. The colonial bread pudding was quite good raisins and with vanilla ice cream. I had an enjoyable time celebrating an early Thanksgiving. They are completely booked for the holiday.
