- AAmyVIPPhiladelphia County •177 reviews5.0Dined 1 day agoI come to this restaurant whenever I am in the area and it never disappoints. The food is very good and nice size portions. The service is very good and was attentive even though they were busy. I tried something new this time and the gnocchi was very good and I have plenty for another meal or two. They also have fabulous desserts so make sure to save room. If you on Route 1 near Longwood Gardens, this is the place to go.More infoFloga BistroPrice: Moderate• Italian• Kennett Square•4.8
- NNickPhiladelphia County •1 review5.0Dined 2 days agoA great experience! Thank you for making our evening amazing! We are from out of town, and this was our first time at La Verona. All of the reviews I read were spot on. The staff, especially Lalo, were warm and sincere and made us feel welcome and at home. The meals were spectacular! We started with Calamari, Grilled Octopus and Frogs legs all fresh and delectable. The homemade pasta in our entrees is King. I had the special; seafood over noodles made with local mushrooms. Just perfect. I tried some of my daughter's dish of Gnocchi and I now know what I will be ordering when we return. It's cool when you find a place like La Verona to recommend to friends and family when visiting the Kennett Square area.More infoLa VeronaPrice: Moderate• Italian• Kennett Square•4.7
- JJOSEPHPhiladelphia County •14 reviews5.0Dined 2 days agoThis is one of our favorite places to go. Not only is the food always good but the service is very good and the staff is the best. Even though we only eat there 4 or 5 times a year, they greet us like old friends, remember what we like to drink and know that I always like Mendenhall Coffee made at the table. Andy is an amazing waiter and even stops by to say hello when you don't get him as your server. I recommend the prime rib when it is available and the lobster bisque soup is also very good. And don't forget to try the bananas foster flamed at your table! Delicious.More infoMendenhall InnPrice: Moderate• American• Mendenhall•4.7

- LLizPhiladelphia County •6 reviews5.0Dined on Dec 12, 2024This was our first time at Letty’s Tavern. We had been to Longwood Gardens, in the pouring rain. We showed up to Letty’s early, the gal at the reception desk was so accommodating, got us a table. The server was excellent, I could not decide what wine I wanted; he graciously brought me two tastes, so I could decide. We had the cheese tray; it was delicious. My husband had the short rib; it melted in his mouth. I had the fish and chips. The fish was delicious and was just enough, sometimes places give you this ridiculously large piece that you can’t finish; the fries were double fried; excellent. We finished this meal by sharing a piece of tiramisu. Probably one of the best pieces of tiramisu I have tasted. A wonderful end to a very wet day! Will be making a trek back to Kennet Square just to go to Letty’s !More infoLetty's TavernPrice: Expensive• Gastro Pub• Kennett Square•4.5

12 of Philadelphia’s outstanding spots for celebrating special occasions
Maybe you got engaged on the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art or just picked up the keys to your first rowhouse. It could be that your kid is (finally) toilet trained, or that your noisy neighbor moved away. Sometimes, simply surviving another Tuesday can be an occasion to celebrate over a restaurant meal. It doesn’t have to be fancy. What makes an occasion special isn’t an arbitrary date on the calendar—it’s the decision to celebrate. Luckily, Philadelphia bursts with places where the food and atmosphere lend themselves to living it up. Grab dinner and a jazz show at a swinging North Broad Street faithful. Opt for a quieter night at a critically acclaimed, plant-based gem in Midtown Village. Or splurge on a swanky steakhouse that presides over a corner of Rittenhouse Park. Whether you’re after an intimate spot for an anniversary date or a convivial atmosphere for a boisterous reunion, Philadelphia has you covered with these 12 celebration-worthy restaurants.

A trip to the area would not be complete without trying a potpie. Hoagies come in all sorts of varieties here, including Italian, chicken, roast beef, and meatball.
