In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s. Seasoned chefs and entrepreneurs Hans Röckenwagner and Josiah Citrin have teamed up to re-open Dear John’s with an updated classic American menu and old-school cocktail list.

We are an eclectic Los Angeles restaurant, located in Koreatown, heralded for its creativity and genre-defying cuisine. Their first restaurant together, owners Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener opened Here's Looking At You in 2016. Named a "Restaurant of the Year" by Food & Wine Magazine and one of Eater National's "38 Most Essential Restaurants," HLAY was also the subject of author Patric Kuh's "Becoming a Restaurateur." After four magical years as a small independent restaurant, COVID-19 would force its forever closure. But 17 months later, fate would have it that the community would come together to help resurrect this very special restaurant. Thanks to you, Here's Looking At You is back.

Metropole Bar & Kitchen highlights a classic west coast cuisine inspired by our culinary team’s heritage and the local community. Our lobby-level restaurant welcomes guests for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, available seven days a week. Much like the rest of our property, Metropole Bar & Kitchen’s design was inspired by muse Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American international movie star who lived in Downtown L.A. during the early 1900s during the time of prohibition.Stepping into our dining area is reminiscent of decades past with nods to DTLA’s prohibition era. From our booths and lowered ceilings that embody speakeasies and underground tunnels that once transported spirits and contraband, to the black & white photos of Jazz musicians inspired by the Jazz Era of the 1920s. Antico Nuovo was unbelievably delicious The Bone Marrow was one of my favorites. Unbelievable! The bread is impossibly delicious. Can't even describe the taste along with the Burretta cheese, the Pork Ribs were so simply season yet, so flavorful. I looking for going back there and trying the menu on a regular day.The day I was there was Valentine's.

A Journey Through the Cosmos at Vespertine There are meals, and then there are experiences—transcendent, immersive, and otherworldly. Vespertine is not just a restaurant; it is an odyssey, a symphony of senses, a dialogue between space, sound, and taste. Returning after six years, I found myself stepping into a realm where time dissolves and the familiar constructs of dining are reimagined. The architecture, stark yet poetic, sets the stage for an experience that unfolds like a dream—each course a revelation, each sip of wine a new movement in an unfolding sonata. The cuisine at Vespertine is alchemy—flavors that collide and intertwine, textures that surprise, an interplay of hot and cold, soft and crisp, delicate yet profound. Each dish is composed with the precision of an artist and the curiosity of an explorer, designed not only to be eaten but to be felt, contemplated, and remembered. The service is a quiet choreography, an effortless ballet of knowledge and intuition. The servers—guardians of this ethereal space—hold within them a depth of understanding, guiding guests through the journey with a reverence that matches the art they present. From room to room, the experience evolves, shifting in tone, in light, in sensation. Each space within Vespertine whispers a different story, pulling the diner deeper into its gravity, blurring the line between reality and reverie. Six years have passed, yet Vespertine remains a beacon of avant-garde gastronomy, an experience not merely consumed but lived. It is not just a dinner; it is a meditation, a crescendo, an awakening. To dine here is to surrender—to the unknown, to the surreal, to the extraordinary.

We have been looking forward to dining at Daer John’s for a long time and we were not disappoonted! The food and service were outstanding and we definitely will return. The only negative for me was the pervasive odor of the fuel used for the table candles; it made my nose run during our meal!
