Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Southwest Philadelphia

I just cannot tell you how much we enjoyed our visit to Gran Caffe L'Aquila on Wednesday, March 12. First of all, our special table was ready for us when we arrived, and, of course, we had their best waiter, Mimmo, who was just wonderful in terms of his service and personality. Both the veal dish and pasta with a delicious white cream sauce went way beyond our expectations. The meal was topped off with an out of this world rich Italian hot chocolate that I have not discovered anywhere else in the city. All of the staff is just so attentive and gracious and we are just counting the days until our next visit.

I love this place so much, great vegan food but perfect for non vegans. Great music and service!

Tucked away in the heart of Philadelphia, this charming restaurant offers an authentic taste of Afghan cuisine. We ordered the Qabuli Palaw with Kofta and Chapli Kebab. The rice was fragrant and flavorful, while the lamb leg beneath the Qabuli Palaw was incredibly tender and succulent. The staff was warm and welcoming, adding to the inviting ambiance. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and relaxation, enhanced by heritage paintings, artifacts, and elegant decor. A must-visit for anyone looking to experience genuine Afghan flavors in a refined yet cozy setting.

This restaurant is worth the hype; be sure to make weekend reservations way in advance (they are strict about them). The meals come as small plates, and the waiter kindly equated the first grouping of plates to being appetizers, the second grouping as main courses, and the third as sides. My husband and I ordered the carpaccio portabello mushrooms and the roasted golden beets to start. Perfectly presented and the right meld of flavors in each. For the next courses, one dish out did the next. Meat eaters will not be disappointed. We finished with a small scoop of cherry sorbet with balsamic vinegar; be sure to give it a try. We look forward to going again the next time we are in Philly.
