Alder’s kitchen is centered around its wood-fired grill and hearth. For the menu, Chef Patrick Kriss of the award-winning and nationally acclaimed Alo Food Group draws inspiration from traditions and techniques long-practiced in and around the Mediterranean – spanning Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia and Morocco. Whether you’re flying solo with an Alder Burger and a beer, gathering friends for small plates and cocktails, or diving into a feast of prime meats and fresh seafood, we’ve got you covered.

Awarded a spot on the Toronto Michelin Guide for 2023 and 2024, Alder is a warm and comfortable place to be, like just the right distance from a bonfire.

Alder is located in The Ace Hotel just a short walk away from most theatres, museums, Rogers Centre & Scotiabank Arena. The perfect cozy setting to begin your evening, with a diverse menu and genuine service team to make it a memorable one.

Serving brunch on Saturday & Sunday, come try our new menu!

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Moto Nishimura / Patrick Kriss

From the OpenTable editors: The neatly stacked wood tucked beneath the entrance stairs at Alder signals the restaurant’s focus on wood-fired flavors. Dishes like grilled halloumi and short rib are inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, but it's the fire that truly shapes the menu. Helmed by chef Patrick Kriss, plates are simple yet masterful, reflecting the signature style of his celebrated Alo Group.

It was our first time at Alder for brunch. We loved the live music and the ambiance of the space. Every dish we ate was incredible and we had the service from all of the staff. The best part was the coconut pie! It is a must try!

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The brunch menu offered multiple options for our dietary restrictions and felt very well balanced between classics and unique twists. I am excited to go back for their dinner service soon.

This was my second time visiting Adler for brunch and I had another great experience. Food was on point in terms of taste , presentation and proportion. The server that I had by the name of Victoria was legit , she was personable, approachable and very knowledgable when I asked about the menu and her suggestion. Well def be back and hopefully Victoria will be my server again.

Felt very rushed through entire set menu. Waitress stood beside our table waiting for us to finish our last bite; never felt so pressure to finish a course.

Staff were nice, place looked cool/trendy but that was about it. Food was very below average. Went for the Valentine’s Day pre-fix and it was $140/head for what you would expect at a $40/head pre fix. Was also very slow service which was surprising considering that they only had the single pre fix option

Went for the Valentine's set menu so it's possible this isn't their standard experience. It was good but a little overpriced. At 140 pp every dish was good but had an element that kept it from being excellent. Like the fois gras and beef was good but the cut of beef was a little chewy and tasted more like pork. There was a 20% tip automatically added to the bill but service was good so I didn't mind. Mandatory tips always rub me the wrong way though. If you go in winter and get cold easily, request a table further from the stairs. We were freezing by the end of the meal.

The valentines tasting menu was overpriced for what it was. Portions were incredibly small and the dessert (cheesecake) was terrible.

Exposed concrete and brutalist architecture aside, Alder is nested comfortably in the lower level of The Ace Hotel. The open kitchen with a view to the wood-fired grill is the visual highlight, so it's kind of strange to have tables tucked away in darker corners. That said, the food is delicious. I love rich and reliable flavours, so the grilled short rib and Iberico pork special were particularly good.
