   WARNING: Overpriced and very average food. But worst part is they have the nerve to add an automatic 23% service fee to cover the cost of their overhead. I never would have gone had I known this and wasn't hosting another couple. This was a change from last time. I will never go back and will advise everyone I know to avoid this place. They may think this is the new standard in Portland but will see and feel how this negatively affects their business in the next year. A professionally run restaurant knows their labor, cog and overhead costs and designs a menu based on those numbers. Let the customer decide if they are willing to pay those prices for those menu items and then ultimately what if any tip they want to leave based on the food and service and not on the inability of ownership to manage a balance sheet. Good luck...you'll need it

   We've been to Bar Casa Vale several times (including last night) and really love the food. We make an effort to try lots of items for a tasting variety and overall experience. The past few times, we've noticed that many of our favorite items are no longer on the menu. While we can appreciate having new options, often what brings a customer back is having something you know is good, something you look forward to having again. There are too many items no longer offered such as...the ryed or die cocktail, marinated carrots, deviled eggs, brussels sprouts, pork ribs. So I have to say, last night's experience was a bit of a disappointment (we were a table of four and all felt this way). We enjoyed seeing the hostess (he's often there) who is super nice and accommodating. We had a special occasion and were given a complimentary dessert...which was a pleasant surprise and one we all very much appreciated.

   Theron provided very good service and the food was excellent. One comment about the jamon plate was that the meat was fabulous and the chips were fabulous, but eaten together, the chips overwhelmed the subtleties of the amazing jamon.

   This place has a very hip vibe and a lot of options for good tasting food within a reasonable price range. We opted for the tasting menu which included more than was advertised. Can’t possibly miss the Pulpo à la Gallega .

   The music level in the main area of dining room was high. Next time I will ask for the adjacent room with the heaters.

   I’ve been to Bar Casa Vale in the past and were very happy. This visit was a let down from start to finish. Upon arriving, the outside steel security door was closed presenting an uninviting first impression. We were then seated in the outside seating area which proved to be very chilly. We were somewhat surprised that we weren’t seated in the nicer indoor space, especially since we had made reservations. Upon being seated we waited nearly 15 minutes before the server arrived to take our drink order. Then when our drinks were brought to our table, one of our drinks was wrong. To BCV’s credit, they quickly noticed their mistake and brought the correct drink. The food order was mediocre at best. While the bacon dates were good, the other food was unexciting and the ribs were gristly to the point where it was difficult to cut through them. All in all not a good experience and far different from previous ones. Given this, I couldn’t recommend.

    First timers here!! Get the ‘Let us feed you’ tasting option for everyone in your party. You won’t be disappointed!! Everything from the roasted cauliflower to the deviled eggs to the mushroom orzo to the octopus to the steak was divine!!
