With every bite, I waited for it to be better. It being the sensory experience of truffle fries melting in my mouth with a fusion of oil salt potato fluffiness and tasty Dijon maple swim. Maybe that's on me for expectations. We remember what we remember. Last night was, as much as I didn't want it to be, forgettable. It seems the fries had been sitting under a lamp for some time rendering them tough and not hot right out of the fryer. The cheese board was curious, no VT cheddar or goat? No local honey, chutney or fig jam for that brie? I think the purple plop on the corner of the board was fig related but not much pop. A giant mound of stone ground mustard next to pickled onions was there though. And some dried apricots and raisins. Enough said. Caesar salad accompanied bravely but could not raise the struggling deliciousness factor. Wilcox ice cream and Enrique saved the evening. We reserved a table for 2-pro tip, request table in main dining room. Little ambience by the Euro cave. We however will not give up on the Barrows House and wait for the bite that saves.

The inn Was beautifully decorated for the holidays! But We had a res and still waited almost an hour for our table. The menu was small and limited …. The tomahawk steak was good but VERY SALTY! And the ‘med rare’ steak was almost uncooked. The Extra lobster we ordered tasted fishy and was inedible. Waiter and service was great. We have come here for the last few years for xmas eve, but will probably go someplace else next year.

The food at Barrows House is consistently amazing. Tonight we had mallard duck (fantastic), scallops with risotto, salmon and the delicious tuna poke nachos to start. Because it was a Monday in stick season, the restaurant volume was quiet. A lovely change. It’s usually bustling and loud which isn’t bad, just different. Thanks to the Barrows House staff for a great evening. Highly recommend.

The food was very good, service was not that good. Server did not even tell us his name, which I thought was strange. It was so loud we couldn’t even hold a conversation with each other. The tables are to close together and the two women next to us were so loud. Probably won’t be back.
