Beauty & Essex has an innovative design that starts in the restaurant’s entrance, a well-curated modern-day pawn shop replete with a saxophone, boombox, quirky artifacts, vintage treasures, and an eclectic array of “one-off” pieces of jewelry. Continuing past the pawnshop, guests encounter a grand, circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier, but only the adventurous will discover all that Beauty & Essex has to offer. With four distinct dining rooms (one private), two bars, a lounge, and a women’s bathroom complete with a salon including a luxurious sofa, and antique perfume bottles. The cuisine, much like the design, is intended to set a new course. Chef Chris Santos was one of the pioneers of the small, share plate dining trend that has swept the nation, and with the Beauty & Essex menu, he once again has created waves on the food scene.

My guest and I dined at Beauty & Essex earlier today. This was our 2nd Thanksgiving celebration there, the 1st one having been in 2019. The Thanksgiving menu was chosen by her, while I chose the Vegan menu. I applaud their effort to appeal to a wide variety of tastes (they also have a red meat menu). Moreover their cocktail/wine list also includes non-alcoholic ones (a must for diners like me who are not allowed alcohol—I thus chose the "Garden Party" cocktail. It was so delicious, I ordered another one after desserts while my guest sipped a 2nd—quite good—regular coffee). Foodwise, for appetizer my guest chose the "Brussels Sprout Jewel with serrano ham and fig & goat cheese puree," which she found delicious, even though she couldn't actually taste the Brussels sprouts! My appetizer was the "Kale & Apple Salad with apple cider vinaigrette & candied pecans" which was copious and very good, the pecans being the genius touch. For main course my guest had the "Classic Roasted Free Range Turkey with cornbread stuffing, sweet potato, cranberry sauce—of which there was way too little—and turkey gravy. She was very satisfied overall about the very large serving of turkey breast slices, the stuffing, and the sauce—half of which found its way in a "doggy bag" she took home. For myself I had the "Grilled Tofu with black garlic risotto, gochujang slaw, and ginger aioli" paired with an accessory of "Roasted Kyoto Carrots with blood orange agrodolce, toasted nuts & spices." The combination was terrific! The Thanksgiving dessert was a "Pumpkin Cheesecake with a small pomegranate sorbet on top" that my guest asked for, but, a waiter misunderstanding had us getting two of them. I said that the Vegan Menu sundae was my choice, and a bit later I got the "Dark Chocolate Brownie Sundae with toasted hazelnuts & pecans, tahitian vanilla gelato, & caramel sauce," and we were told to keep the 2nd cheesecake. Both desserts were fantastic. A truly memorable feast. Bravo Beauty & Essex!

Absolutely phenomenal experience from start to finish. Austin took care of us and just made us feel right at home. Made great recommendations to us and just did pretty perfect service overall. It was very loud which was expected and didn’t bother us all that much, what was a little annoying was these people beside us with ring lights blinding us all dinner but other than that, perfect service all the way through. Couldn’t recommend the tasting menu enough!!! Great value with so many great options:)

The service at the bar was remarkably poor and the food was bad. The bartender acted like he did not want us there. By the end of the evening, he had warmed up a little. But not much. He was also not knowledgable or service oriented. My boyfriend ordered an expensive mezcal, which should be served meat, and served it a bunch of crushed ice and then when we asked for it to be corrected, he just strained the ice out. The mezcal was ruined. Most of the food simply not good, some was mediocre, but the concepts were just off. I’m not sure how they ruined hamachi ceviche, but they did. They also had a steak tartare flatbread. I think it was an uncooked Costco individual uncooked pizza. REALLY bad. This place was also expensive. Unclear why it has received good reviews. Do not recommend at all. We had better street food after.

This one lives up to the hype! Every dish we had was memorable and something we’d come back for! Grilled cheese dumplings, kale & apple salad, miso eggplant, truffle mac & cheese and beef Wellington all highly recommended… the steak was super tender and tasty (we were skeptical). Oh and the espresso martini! You won’t be disappointed!
