Blackfish, the flagship BYOB of Chef/owner Charles "Chip" Roman, offers seafood-centered, progressive American cuisine with French influences.

Guests can enjoy a daily changing a la carte menu, as well as tasting menus ranging from five-to-seven courses.

Blackfish opened in 2006 and has since been named “Best Restaurant” in Philadelphia Magazine’s 2011 “50 Best Restaurants” issue, calling Blackfish “flat-out fantastic; sophisticated without being overbearingly avant-garde, pretty and fresh without being precious; the perfect restaurant of the moment.”

    What a lovely gem in Conshohocken! As the name suggests, this restaurant is seafood-heavy, so come here if you love seafood. Having said that, there was a duck dish that was delicious. The service was friendly and professional. The ambiance warm and intimate. You can wear a little black dress or dressy jeans with a great top. And it’s BYO!

    We decided to go back to Blackfish for a nice seafood dinner experience. We had not been there since before the Pandemic. We stopped going before because the service was just off. The food is excellent and wonderful but as a fine dining experience, it doesn't bode well if the level of service is not to that level. For example, the greeter/seater was a bit aloof and not very happy ("Mr No Smile") to see us or to greet us. Then we were seated for about 15 minutes before anyone came to give us water and explain the menu. They use a team approach to serving which means no one server is accountable and therefore, no one seems very interested in any needs you might have. As I stated, the food is excellent. The entrees are quite generous in portion. We did not get the Secondi pasta course as it would have been too much food. We were going to get the cinnamon beignets for dessert but once again, it took about 15 minutes for a server to see if we were interested in the dessert menu. By that time, we had had enough. Such a shame. So much potential. I doubt we will go back.

    The amuse bouche was delightful, oysters were phenomenal, followed by the Scottish salmon, the foie gras terrine was sublime, the mushrooms were delicious. The only misstep was the last savory dish swordfish—it was cooked perfectly but in my opinion over sauced with too much tarragon which overwhelmed the fish. The dessert duo of crème brulee & beignet was just the right size, texture & sweetness. The service was warm & efficient, will keep coming back!

    Blackfish is still elegant and sophisticated in a laid back casual way. Everything is just right, from the staff & setting to the menu to preparation & presentation to the joy of a meal there. Highlights for us were the venison terrine, beet salad with whipped feta, scallop crudo, duck, fisherman’s soup, and swordfish. BF would be a success anywhere in the world - it’s really that good. We’re very glad it’s here!

    We went for the duck tasting menu. It was a lot of food, for sure. And all the dishes were amazing. I also had the Prince Edward oysters that were fantastic! The service was great too. This is my second time there. Will definitely be back.
