About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Good for groups
  • Good for special occasions
Blacklock a modern version of the Great British chophouse. Set in an old electricity substation on the site of London"s oldest meat market. We take the best meat in the country from the award-winning farmer and butcher Philip Warren in Cornwall. We cook chops simply over our real charcoal grill with a little help from vintage Blacklock irons and serve it all up alongside cocktails that give back and wine on tap in our atmospheric subterranean chop mecca. On Sundays we serve a Sunday Roast almost as good as Mum's.

We have limited spaces for Walk-ins, so we encourage booking in advance to avoid disappointment during busy times.

We had the all in Sunday roast. The food was great and the service was quick and attentive. The dessert was amazing.

Great food and great service, the ribeye could be a slightly thicker cut and the chips were a bit too crunchy. Will definitely revisit, especially for the white chocolate cheesecake.

I booked a table for my partners birthday along with taking his parents and our experience from start to finish was simply outstanding. Our waitress provided the best service and was so informative and took the time to explain the menu to us which was greatly appreciated and even catered to me considering I’m a veggie! The drinks were amazing especially the lemon drop Collins and the side dishes were a great accompaniment to the mains which were also beautiful and full of flavour. The ambiance of the restaurant was lively but super cosy we would definitely return as our experience was everything I was expecting and more!

As always the food was extremely good. As soon as we walked in no greeting just name and shown to table. We had a couple of suit holders and a bag. No offer of cloak room service. We had to lay across one spare chair. Just disappointed. Normally the service is excellent. We asked for the fillet not to be sliced but it was. I asked for a large wine and got a small.

Great place for dinner. Very loud, so don't plan on a quiet dinner. I'll be back!

I went to Blacklock a few years ago and raved about it to all my friends for ages. Incredible meat and sides and service was absolutely great. I went back last night and I have mixed feelings. Our waiter was absolutely great, funny, kept our glasses always fed, was attentive and even gave us a few things on the house. A legend. I went for the porterhouse which was very tasty but didn't come out very hot. A good selection of wines (went for the Primitivo which was delicious) but I found the cocktail to be very weak. Several years ago I had the bread dipped in the gravy. Years ago it was absolutely delicious, good bread drenched in delicious gravy. Last night it was on dry and almost half burnt bread with a few drops of gravy. shame as that was one of the things I was looking forward to the most. The cheesecake was banging. Super nice. Ambience and seating were fine. Overall a lesser experience than my first, going from probably a 9 to a 7 out of 10.

Waitress Andreea was a delight and a credit to the team fabulous food, atmosphere and staff. I hate going out to dinner but if I go anywhere I go to blacklock (esp city branch), everything is decent on the menu.

The food was excellent, as always with Blacklock. The steak was perfectly cooked, but the sides should also get a mention. It would be so easy to just do simple green veg/salad type sides but Blacklock have crafted some really nice pairings without going over the top. The drinks menu is excellent too - I wish I could have sampled more of it. The service was just fantastic. I came with my dad, and I always want to apologise in advance when I take him anywhere as he's so difficult, but the staff handled him really well and went out of their way to try and give us a great experience.
