Located in the Sorrento Valley, California English is the newest culinary creation from celebrity chef, Richard Blais. Blais is creating an all-day menu for California English that’ll interpret classic British dishes through the lens of Southern California ingredients.
The idea is a fusion of sorts: the laid-back California lifestyle that makes San Diego so unique, mixed with a cozy pub convivial atmosphere where you can meet friends (or mates) for a pint after work, set up a client lunch with fresh oysters on the menu or have a cozy family dinner over a Sunday roast. Everything on the menu is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients that make for fresh and flavorful dishes.
The effortless vibe of casual yet stylish makes for the perfect place to celebrate the joy of the unexpected coming together to make the perfect culinary match.

The craft cocktails were great. The decor is awesome. Food was delicious and not something you can necessarily get anywhere. We had a really great date night. Will definitely be back.

My wife is from the UK and she was pleasantly surprised with the food. She said that it was the best fish and chips she’s had since she’s been here and most like a “proper chippy” back home. I had the prime rib and it was absolutely delicious with an amazing cut of meat and the flavor was outstanding. The cocktails were delicious as well and the ambience was perfect. We both highly recommend California English.

Vibe was great, wonderful service, but I didn’t like the heavy amount of mustard seeds on the short rib. It’s not shown on the menu that the meal had mustard seeds, or pickled onions. Not a fan of that. However the beef Wellington was amazing! The scones were delicious, and the drinks were phenomenal.

I love this place. Yes service is delicious and always hard to eat everything so plan on taking some home. The cocktail hour Old Chap drink was lovely.

The drinks and dessert were amazing, but the apps and the dinner were not worth the price tag for me.

Dalton was Fantastic!! Top tier tea service!! Everything was exquisite and beautifully presented, thoroughly explained, and happily enjoyed. We weren’t made to feel rushed which is so important when enjoying tea with a friend. The manager Jenna checked on our table and cheerfully asked for our feedback. We were incredibly impressed with their desire to improve what is already a phenomenal experience. My only recommendation to handicap patrons is that the parking is further down and the entrance without stairs is on the side. They were very accommodating and allowed us in 3 minutes before opening so we wouldn’t have to stand in the cold wind with our canes. Definitely empathetic people that prioritize customer service. I’m pretty sure we just found our new favorite neighborhood restaurant!!!!

Wanted to have a low key belated anniversary meal and this superseded our expectations. Our sever was amazing (also the bartender I believe ) . He touched upon our every need. We did not have to ask for one thing. His team mates also managed to catch and anticipate any detail that might have made our meal Better (like a steak knife for our ricotta toast )as well as the manager on duty. The food was outstanding; my husband had the scones and banger gravy dish and I had the chimichurri hanger steak cooked to an exact medium rare and the chip were DELISH!! The sticky toffee pudding desert treat was an added bonus that was PERFECTION !! Thank you so much for such a wonderful little date !!! ✨💕

Michelle, I am so thankful you took the time to write such a lovely review. This is all music to my ears! Our team strives to anticipate the needs of our guests and deliver service that is attentive. I'm thrilled to know not only our bartender but everyone on the floor contributed to a time well had. Additionally, I am happy menu offerings met expectations. Thanks for celebrating such a special occasion with us, hope to see you again soon! Brooke & the California English team
