Carmel transports the energy, culture, and flavor of the renowned outdoor marketplace “Shuk HaCarmel” to Melrose Avenue, in the heart of LA’s food scene.

Using some of the oldest techniques in the world— a wood-burning oven, an open flame grill— chef Asaf Maoz interprets ancient Levantine cooking traditions through a modern lens.

Dishes showcase the best of the season: farmer’s market produce, sustainably-sourced meats and seafood, all prepared with the global culinary influence of the Tel Aviv shuk. Breads are baked in-house, including a 72-hour fermented Moroccan Frena, baked to order in the wood-fire oven.

Brunch was amazing. The selection of food was phenomenal. My party loved the jersalem bagel, red snapper schnitzel sandwich, and the bourekas benedict. Service was great too. 10/10 would recommend

Portion sizes were small and plates were expensive (but what’s new, it’s LA). We loved our Crudo and ceviche but everything else was fair at best. Nothing to write home about and for a two person dinner at almost $400, I was hoping for something more memorable. Also noting that the cocktails are all extremely sweet, even their freezer martini.

The food here is amazing every time, must try the grouper schnitzel and the artichoke tortellini, such unique and delicious dishes. Great ambience for a birthday, special occasion or date night.

Artichoke ravioli, lamb neck pasta and harissa encrusted jidori chicken were standouts. Charred eggplant is incredible. The fermented Moroccan bread is borderline outrageous. I run out of adjectives to describe how good the dishes are.

What a delightful experience. Sat at the chef’s counter and got a nice view of the wood fired oven and the grill. Ordered the bread (must get), the spicy plate with feta, roasted peppers, garlic confit, mushroom cigars (pretty good but not to die for), the kanpachi crudo (absolutely must get - basically drank the sauce) and the branzino which was so delicate with this divine sort of nut-focused salad/slaw/herb situation. Wine was delicious and the vibe was high energy, classy, fun. Service was a teeny bit slow but they were slammed and everyone was super nice. Will be back to try the pastas!
