The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.

Chez Josephine draws a crowd unlike any other in New York as food critic Bryan Miller noted when he wrote: “The dining room is a confluence of the famous and the fashionable, the infamous and unsung – with every shade of skin on earth – and indeed you feel the magic of Chez Josephine.”

    We had another enjoyable meal at Chez Josephine. We both had the pre fix which were delicious. Service and ambiance were impeccable.

    The food was amazing. Lovely piano player. However, our server was so rude to us and the table over that it ruined the experience.

    If you were looking for a great meal with great service and a wonderful ambience, I highly recommend Chez Josephine. I’ve gone here both on business and for pleasure and it doesn’t have to be a special occasion for the price is reasonable. Go and find out how great it is for yourself.

    Beautiful decor, service and food! Only minus is they didn’t have red sangria available and forgot to bring ketchup to go with the steak frites.

    What a gem of a restaurant and honoring the remarkable woman, Josephine Baker. This has been a family favorite for a long time. Price fixed menu at $45 is unbelievable for NYC. I’ve been a patron for nearly 10 years and have never had a bad meal here. The live entertainment piano and vocals is so New York. Five stars all the way!
