Compère Lapin - noun - "kom-pare la-pan" - 1. anthropomorphic rabbit character who served as the mischievous protagonist in Creole and Caribbean folk tales; 2. Chef Nina Compton's restaurant at the Old No 77 Hotel & Chandlery in the Warehouse Arts District of New Orleans.

Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.

We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Nina Compton

From the OpenTable editors: At Compère Lapin, James Beard Award-winning chef Nina Compton dazzles with showstopping dishes that marry her Caribbean heritage and French fine dining pedigree. Dig into favorites like goat curry and broiled shrimp with Calabrian chili butter in a stylish space dressed with exposed brick and warm woods. Don’t miss award-winning cocktails like The Copper Hopper—a tropical, tequila-forward drink served in a copper bunny mug, a nod to the restaurant’s namesake folklore rabbit.

Delicious meal. Fried Chicken and Pigs Ears. Livia was a wonderful server. Very attentive and efficient. Cory picked a great and perfectly matched wine to compliment our food.

The best meal we ever had in the US. A wonderful combination of flavours: all fresh ingredients and well balanced spices. Lovely wines. We had a Californian orange wine that paired with each and every dish. Staff was perfect, friendly, there when appropriate and genuinely happy to see out enjoyment of the food. Don’t miss Compère Lapin when staying in New Orleans!

Was excited to try one of Nina Compton’s places on our trip to New Orleans and it did not disappoint! The hush puppies were a great start and had a nice but not too over powering kick to it. My husband can’t stop talking about the pork belly and the goat curry gnocchi lived up to its reputation as one of the signature dishes! The Italian Stew was also a great vegan option and was packed with flavor. The atmosphere was relaxed and staff were excellent and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend as a stop on your trip to New Orleans!

Food was excellent, exquisite and elevated. Every plate brought out during our “just feed me” option was absolutely delicious leaving wanting more.

Bread service was delicious, dishes were underwhelming, the fried chicken was covered in syrup making it tough to eat and the clam pasta had many pepper flakes that made it extremely spicy. Would recommend for server to tell guest very spicy prior to ordering

This was our second time at the Compere Lapin and it was just as good as our previous visit. The server was great and the food superb. Will be back next year!

We dined here in 2019. It was so good we came back a second time. Our dinner on 12/3 was disappointing The food was very slow in coming out and the restaurant was empty. It took three tries to find a bottle of wine because they did not have what we wanted. Bad lighting. And not very much fun. Would not go back.

My family and I had an amazing dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious and well-balanced. The Tuna Ceviche was incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor, with a delightful contrast in texture from the peanuts and crispy rice (if I’m not mistaken). My son enjoyed it so much that he ordered a second serving! The beef soup brought back wonderful memories of my mother’s cow foot soup—it felt like being at her dinner table again. My five-year-old son devoured everything on his plate; his favorite was the crab claws. The service was excellent, and our server was both pleasant and very knowledgeable (apologies for forgetting her name). The biscuits were light, flaky, and buttery—simply perfect. We also loved the ambiance and music, which added to the overall experience. Thank you for a wonderful meal and an unforgettable evening!
