Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Victor Jimenez

From the OpenTable editors: The award-winning, ride-’em-cowboy digs—hello, indoor fire pits—are one reason to dine at this long-standing East Village steakhouse. But so is the meaty food. Executive chef Victor H. Jimenez serves world-class New American fare like New York-style Hokkaido wagyu (flown in from Japan) and smoked garlic mac and cheese.

Everything we ordered was delicious! Bread and butter, Entrées: Tbone steak with Brussels on the side & Mushroom ravioli. Dessert was Banana pudding with some ice cream. Loved it! Will definitely return.

We decided to go to Cowboy Star to celebrate being first time parents! We made an early reservation, which allowed for us to not feel rushed and still make it home in time for bedtime. We didn’t take into account the rodeo was in town so parking was a little more difficult to find, so take that into consideration when booking your time here. However don’t let parking deter you from going, it’s absolutely worth it! We had a 4:30 pm reservation but got there early at 4 and were sat down immediately. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing the bread service- and ask for fresh bread, wow absolutely worth it! The steaks do come with mash potatoes and green beans. So if you choose to have a side do share them, as their portions are large! I would say unless you’re very hungry or going to share with others, skipping the appetizers and salads and going straight to main is still so much food! We didn’t have room for dessert but they all looked incredible. Wine and beer was selected for beverages and both were great.

First time visiting cowboy star for an anniversary, service was meh, our server didn’t make it feel like a personable or intimate experience like other steak restaurants do. He got our order wrong, the manager brought out our dishes, my partner would have to wait for his correct dish while I sat there with mine but he ended up settling and choosing the fillet that was brought out by mistake. The food felt rushed I asked for med and it came out well done nearly burnt like carne asada. The Mac & cheese was basic so was the tuna tartare. My husband and I hardly have time for date night these days so this night was a relief for us, or so we thought. Overall it was not a good experience for us to celebrate an anniversary here with high prices on the menu, crappy food service and no accommodations for their mistakes on our food or apologies from the manager whom brought our food out. It all seemed rush to get us in and out quickly. Will I return again? I don’t think so.
