We are a wine shop inside of a restaurant | Dining and design form the perfect union at San Diego's highly acclaimed CUCINA urbana, a California-inspired Italian kitchen and wine shop, located in the heart of Bankers Hill since 2009.

The restaurant boasts comfort and familiarity, welcoming diners to a country farmhouse with the added whimsy of a contemporary art installation.

CUCINA urbana is the originator of the CUCINA retail wine program where each dedicated shop allows guests to hand select wines at a retail price, either to enjoy with their meal for a minimal corkage fee or for purchase to-go. The wine list is comprised of many familiar labels as well as rare and small-batch gems, with an emphasis on Italian varietals.

    The staff was really personable from the onset - remembered that there was a birthday in the reservation and asked whose it was as did our server. Riley was very personable and helpful - staff was very timely and attentive to clearing plates, timing of apps and plates and desserts, as well as drink replenishment. Beautiful little spot - food was incredible.

    We visit Cucina Urbana every time we are in San Diego—it never fails to impress. The pasta is always delicious and this time we especially enjoyed that as well as a tasty chicory salad that included the most visually stunning castelranco, thinly sliced pink lady apples, grapes, chopped hazelnuts & Gorgonzola topped with a tarragon vinaigrette. Literally farm to table—DELICIOUS!

    Our server was Joshua…. He did a fantastic job… place was busy food was off the charts!!! Love the ambience & family style plates … wine list was DEEP!!! The food runners and bussers were all excellent as well… if there was one thing I might have wanted woudk have been the every wine place meat & cheese board but the fact they didn’t was nice too because we just ordered a variety of plates !!! The osso bucco was fall off the bone good !!! This was our first date here and it definitely won’t be our last !!! Loved it

    Fantastic place to have my birthday dinner. The service was impeccable. Our waiter Jason made sure we had a fabulous time and took the best care of us. Their lavender lemonade was too die for and the bucatini was delicious.✨

    Top notch experience focused on service to the diners in our party. Communication from server was very helpful and recommendations were great. Menu and dishes are well thought out. Everyone found something to rave about in their choices. Wall of wine was surprisingly approachable, with reasonable options to be had.

    The Wild Mushroom + Ricotta Agnolotti was disappointing as the mushrooms tasted awful. Overall not a terrible experience but I wish I’d ordered something different. My guests enjoyed their pastas. The Limoncello Mousse Tart was very good.
