Lovely food and service, dogs made very welcome. Starter and main courses lovely. We had leek soup, I had the goats cheese pasta. Then a shepherd's pie with veg and I had the steak and ale pie. All very filling and good value.

The Filly Inn is a lovely Hotel/Pub. The food is high quality with a small but varied menu. We dined at the restaurant for three nights in December. The service was very kind and attentive, especially from the outstanding Ella. The gentleman who appeared to be the restaurant manager was, alas, disinterested. Despite this, I’d recommend The Filly Inn as an excellent choice for a quality meal in the New Forest, Hampshire.

Little disappointed with the quality of the food. Yes, i except it was Boxing Day, but we pre ordered our selection. Not much of an Xmas feel to it at all! X The carpet in the dining room, looked like it had been there for a number of years. Xmas crackers were cheap! Wouldn’t recommend it unless you were desperate.

So this is a lovely place to go and eat. The ambience is lovely, the place is clean and clearly well looked after. The Filly is a busy place so booking is advisable. So we were looking for a good place to have a Sunday Roast. I love a roast, my partner less so. My main criteria for a Sunday roast for me is that it should have at least one component that is better than what I can make at home. We were welcomed and quickly shown to our table (sadly right next to the kitchen door). Excellent selection of drinks, beers were bought. I ordered the Roast beef. I was a little disappointed. The beef although tasty was tough, there is a current trend to pile the plate high with root veg at the bottom, a gravy that felt like it had come from a packet, slices of beef on top - there was more then enough beef here, then the Yorkie on top of that. For me the Yorkie should have some gravy in it, but as the gravy was not separate this was not an option. I also ordered the cauliflower cheese - this was the best part of the meal. So quick summary, roast potatoes and parsnips were soggy - the potatoes at least should be crispy on the outside and floofy in the middle - they were just soggy. The green veg was well done and different to what you would normally get. The cauliflower cheese was excellent but without enough salt. The salt cellars were the grindy kind and they hadn't been filled with salt crystals to crush, fine table salt inside - not the best. Am I being a bit picky? Yes, but for £25 including the cauliflower cheese that was extra I expect something better, and as I said a decent roast should include at least one component that is cooked better than I can. There wasn't. So in summary, lovely ambience, decent service great surroundings - including one couple eating in the fireplace which looked awesome - go here. Just don't expect the roast to be good value for money.
