Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Really good service and excellent steaks. Similar to Seven Dials in UK for ambience.

Absolutely the best roast dinner I’ve ever had in NYC. As a Brit living here for 14yrs I’ve been hankering for a good one and this hit the spot!

We shared a Chateaubriand between four of us and it was as good as we remembered. The wonderful, flavorful crust from the charcoal grilling is so good. Even though they’re not on the menu, we always ordered regular french fries because they make them so well; we’re not fans of the beef fat fries. They have changed the Caesar salad to a chopped version; we prefer the whole leaf original style. Hawksmoor is still our NYC favorite steakhouse.

The scallops were lovely, and the steaks were good, I would say go with the strip. The creamed spinach was really not good it tasted like incense but they took it back and brought us the sautéed instead which was fine.

A lot of hype for a place that just doesn’t live up. Staff should be working a hipster spot in Brooklyn

This was my third time visiting the NYC location, and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve dined multiple times over the past decade plus at Hawksmoor’s London locations (Coven Garden & Guildhall) as well as Manchester. The continuity of genuine customer service and food quality excellence at all locations is second to none. You won’t find a better steakhouse experience anywhere & I have been to too many to count. Cocktails are well crafted. You must try the Scallops with wine & garlic. Their creamed spinach is the best I’ve had. Oysters (prepared & plain) were incredible, and the coal fired steaks are perfect temp as ordered (how often does that happen?) and delicious. Ask for Andrea. She is the consummate professional waiter. She handled a bustling section of tables that I’ve watched many a waiter crumble under, and she executed her service with grace and rhythm, took amazing care of us. Can’t wait to return for another meal!

Overrated. The service staff was disoriented. We had a reservation and were told to wait by the bar, then a waitress came and told us to just choose a table around the bar so we did. We got menus and ordered. 15 minutes later a different waitress came and said our table in the dining room is ready, but when she realized we already ordered food we couldn’t be moved. Realizing we weren’t in the main dining area dimmed the experience. On top of that it took the food an hour to arrive and they made mistakes in our order. The dirty martinis were also not at a steakhouse level. Overall disappointing experience.

I decided to try Hawksmoor Steakhouse after seeing it rated as one of the top steakhouses in NYC by Time Out Magazine. I went after a matinee with friends visiting from out of town, expecting a great experience, but unfortunately, it was a disaster from start to finish. First off, they charge for bread—which is ridiculous for a high-end steakhouse. Their cocktails come with massive ice cubes and barely any actual drink. The appetizers were just okay, but the real issue was the steak. We ordered a porterhouse for the table, medium rare, and it came out completely burnt. We sent it back, and after waiting 35 minutes—by which time our sides were long gone and no replacement steak had arrived—we decided to leave. This place has potential from an ambiance perspective, but the management is clearly lacking. They market themselves as a high-end steakhouse with high-end prices, yet the staff walks around in t-shirts and jeans, looking sloppy. Even a diner has better-dressed servers. Completely disappointed, we left and went to Rocco’s Steakhouse instead, which was absolutely incredible—everything Hawksmoor pretends to be but isn’t. For the prices they charge, Hawksmoor should be ashamed of themselves. Definitely would not recommend!

Steak Diane was not prepared right. Very tough to eat. Also they need to invest in better steak knives.
